Harry, Ron and Hermione were walking along the corridor away from the Headmasters office. Around them was evidence that a devastating war had taken place a little while before. The walls had big holes in them and lots of rubble and concrete lay on the floor. The paintings were ripped or had been blasted off of the wall and onto the floor. All three of the Gargoyles were blasted into two. It was obvious that the castle would take along time to be rebuilt.

All three of the so-called 'Hero’s' of the war sported gashes on their faces and their clothes were ripped and had big burns in them. They all looked utterly exhausted. Harry was definitely the worst for looks as his face was covered with a mix of blood and dirt. They walked towards the Gryffindor Common room and when they got there Harry spoke;

''You go ahead, I’ll be back in a little while, there’s something I have to do.'' Harry looked up at both his best friends and saw the look of concern on their faces. ''Don’t worry!''

Reluctantly, both Hermione and Ron walked through the portrait hole and disappeared. Harry threw the invisibility cloak over himself and set off. He walked through the castle and along the grounds of Hogwarts until he found himself looking at the tomb that protected his ‘mentors’ body.

‘’Lets get this over with,’’ he muttered to himself. He walked through the entrance of the tomb and to the place where Albus Dumbledore lay. The zombie-like face of Dumbledore was clearly visible. He took the Elder Wand from his pocket and placed it safely between his pale hands. ‘’I did it!’’ That was all he could say as tears started flowing down his cheeks.

Harry wiped away the tears with his already ruined shirt. After walking out the tomb, he used the levitation spell to place the boulder in front of the doorway. He then conjured a bunch of flowers and placed them against the wall.

A few hours later, the Weasley family and both Harry and Hermione were sat in the Gryffindor common room. Mrs. Weasley had her face buried into her husbands shoulder whilst opposite her Ron and Hermione were talking quietly to them. The family looked saddened by Fred’s death. Harry thought it was his entire fault and had a guilty look on his face. Mrs. Weasley looked up at him and read hi like a book.

‘’Harry, we don’t blame you for this you know.’’ Harry looked at her and was lost for words. He blamed himself hugely. He didn’t think he belonged with them, and thought he was like an intruder.

‘’I’m so sorry. I think I’m going to go upstairs and lay down for a bit,’’ he said. Mrs. Weasley nodded her understanding.

She then looked at her family, ‘’Why don’t we all get some sleep, we look like we need it.’’ Everyone stood up and went their separate ways to the dormitories. They decided that they would leave Harry to have his own room for some privacy.

Ginny stayed down in the common room for a little longer to make sure everyone had settled down into their rooms. She then walked up the stairs and into the room Harry occupied. She opened the door and cast ‘muffliato’ on the room. Both of them looked at each other in an awkward silence. Ginny had tears running down her face. Harry wanted to comfort her but found it hard to stand up. When he did, he went to hug her but she shrugged him off instantly. She had a look of disgust on her face and then ran up to him and started thumping him with all her might. Harry just wrapped his arms around her to stop her and calm her down.

‘’Get off Harry!’’ She screamed as loud as she could and cursed at him under her breath. If the muffliato charm wasn’t placed on the room, the whole castle would have woken. Harry was quickly losing patience with her.

‘’Not until you stop hitting me. I’m sorry Gin but….STOP!’’ Ginny backed away but still glared at him, looking as though she was ready to pounce at any moment. After a few seconds Harry’s knees buckled underneath him and fell backwards onto the bed. Harry was still and looked like he had fainted.

‘’Harry, Harry!’’ She shook him trying to wake him up. She felt his chest and found he was still breathing. ‘’He must be really tired,’’ she said to herself smirking. She got on to the bed next to his and fell asleep instantly.

Ginny woke up a few hours later and noticed that Harry was still asleep. She decided she would talk to him when he woke up. Ginny got out of the bed and went in to the bathroom. Half an hour later, she had finished cleaning herself up and walked back into the room, causing Harry to stir.

‘’Morning,’’ Harry greeted as he saw her on the end of his bed. ‘’How long have you been sat there?’’

‘’Just as you began to wake up.’’ Ginny looked up at the man who she had dearly missed the past year. However she felt a sudden urge to shout at him but shook it off as soon as it came. ‘’We need to talk Harry.’’ She needed to know about the events of the past year but firstly, something else was on her mind. ‘’I thought you were dead Harry! I thought that I had lost you. You were the only one that got me through the last year. I didn’t know where you were or what you were doing. I need to know, now!’’

‘’I’m sorry for what I put you through, I didn’t mean for you to get hurt.’’ He sighed and begun to start the story of the last year or so, from the moment they left Bill and Fleur’s wedding.

Half an hour later, he had explained every little detail up to the memory Snape had given him. ‘’ I realised that I had to die to destroy Voldemort’s soul that was inside me. I told Neville to destroy the final horcrux, the snake. Ginny seemed to be understanding everything he had told her. ‘’As I was walking to the forest, I saw you comforting someone. I had to fight off the urge to walk over there and see you.’’

‘’Why Harry, why didn’t you?’’

‘’Because I knew you wouldn’t be able to see to Voldemort. I wouldn’t be able to leave you. Please understand!’’ He looked at her and pleaded.

Ginny had tears in her eyes and just nodded. ‘’I thin you should stop the story there. I still want to know the rest but, not yet.’’ Harry walked up to her and hugged her tightly. This time she returned the hug and looked into the emerald green eyes that sent shivers down her pine whenever she looked into them. “Thanks for telling me all of this, I really needed to know.” She then kissed Harry on the cheek.

Harry couldn’t hide his disappointment. “We haven’t seen each other for a full year, and that is all I get?” Ginny giggled and then kissed him on the lips. He returned the kiss affectionately which eventually led to full on snogging. A few minutes later, there was a knock on the door and they broke apart abruptly.

“Harry, Mum wants to see us all downstairs,” Ron shouted with his usual immaculate timing.

After showering and putting on clean clothes, Harry and Ginny walked down the staircase hand in hand. Upon arriving in the common room, he noticed that the Weasley families along with Hermione were sat in the corner of the room nearest the fireplace. When Mrs. Weasley noticed their arrival, she greeted them both with a typical bone-crushing hug.

“Harry dear, I’m so glad you’re awake!” She let go of him and ushered the new couple to sit down on the couch next to Ron and Hermione who were holding each other. Harry couldn’t be happier for both of them even though it took far too long a time for them both to get together.

Mr Weasley smiled at Harry and asked him if he had had anything to eat. The latter shook his head. Just then, Harry realised just how hungry he was. He hadn’t eaten for what seemed like weeks, years even. “Kreacher!” Kreacher appeared instantly. The elf looked like he was going to burst with pride and wore a big grin on his face. Before the elf could open his mouth to speak, Harry said, “Kreacher, could you go to the Kitchens and get us something to eat. I for one haven’t had anything in over two days!”

“Certainly, Kreacher will go right away sir.” And with that he disappeared only to reappear a few minutes later with a tray of sandwiches. Before Harry could say thanks, Ron jumped over him and grabbed one. By the time Harry reached out to get one, Ron was finishing his second. Harry just laughed at the eagerness of his best mate. It was clear that Ron was, just as, if not more than hungry than he was. After eating his first sandwich, Harry realised that George had moved to sit by himself at the other side of the room. Harry jumped from his seat and walked over to where he was sat.

“George, I’m sorry! If I had gone to Vold-“

“Don’t you dare! Don’t be sorry Harry. I know you are feeling like it is all your fault, but its not. Everyone knew the risks they were taking when coming to fight. I just didn’t think it would happen to F-Fred. He said to me before that if one of us died that the other should live life to the full and don’t just sit at home depressed all the time.” George seemed to be taking it better than Harry first thought. He noticed that George still had a pained expression on his face. “I came over here so I can just think of the good times we shared. As much as I didn’t think he would die, it just shows how great a person he was.”

Harry couldn’t help but agree with that. “Let’s go over there and sit with the rest of your family.” George silently agreed and followed Harry back to where the Weasley's were sat.

Harry took his seat next to Ginny and just smiled at her. She just pulled him towards her and Harry returned the gesture. “We’ve decided to go home soon Harry,” she told him with a small smile on her face. Harry stared at her and decided that she was the most beautiful thing he had ever laid eyes on and the person he wanted to share the rest of his life with. He was interrupted when Mrs. Weasley spoke;

“I think it would be better for us to stay here for a little longer to help with the rebuilding of the castle.” Everybody agreed except Harry and Ginny. Mrs. Weasley wore a challenging look on her face. “And what do you have in mind?”

“Well, if you don’t mind, Ginny and I would like to go see Mrs. Tonks. She lost her whole family during the war. Apart from little Teddy of course.” Mrs. Weasley smiled at them both.

“Well yes dear, you and Ginny go see Andromeda; I dare say she could do with the company. Meet us at the Burrow for dinner and make sure to ask her to join us.” She looked over at Mr. Weasley who immediately agreed. At that, they all began to file out of the room.

After the others exited the now deserted common room, Harry pulled Ginny upstairs to get his invisibility cloak. “We should put this over us; I don’t think I want to be bombarded with people. You know I hate being famous.”

Ginny saw the displeasure on his face. “Don’t worry love. If anyone ever goes anywhere near you again, they will regret it!” They laughed together before throwing the cloak over themselves and walking to the apparition point.

*************************

T hey apparated to Tonks Cottage, as they approached the front steps, Harry was anxious to see the reaction of Mrs. Tonks upon seeing him. He couldn’t help but wonder what Teddy was like which made him even more anxious. Ginny squeezed his hand in reassurance. They knocked on the door and a few minutes later, Andromeda peered through a small opening in the door. “Prove yourself! How do I know you’re not an intruder?”

“It is me Harry Potter. I am the godfather of Teddy Lupin on Remus and Nymphadora’s request. I came here with Hagrid on a motorbike after the battle in the skies. If I am not mistaken, the portkey to the Burrow was a hairbrush,” he replied. Before he knew it, Andromeda had opened the door and pulled them both into a hug, tears running down her face.

“Oh Harry, Ginny, what a pleasant surprise!”

“Please don’t, Mrs. Tonks. I…can’t tell you how ….sorry I am,” he said, trying to stop himself from the urge to cry.

“Oh, dear, why don’t you two come in?” she said, moving backwards to allow them to enter her house. Harry and Ginny walked though to the living room, Ginny with her hand on Harry’s back for comfort. The room looked a complete mess, as though it had been searched. Andromeda ran to the kitchen to make some tea. “I’ll leave you to get comfy,” she said as she headed out of the room.

Harry and Ginny saw a cot at the end of the room and knew instantly that Teddy was there. The child was around four month old. They walked over to look at the baby. His hair was the same colour that Tonks’s sported. The baby was wide awake and looked up at them. Ginny picked him up and let him lay his head on her shoulder. Harry looked at Ginny and they shared a small smile.

“Have you ever done that before?” Harry asked

“No, Harry, but it just came naturally,” she said. He thought all girls may be able to do it. “Do you want to hold him?”

“Yes please,” he said, however frightened of the prospect of actually holding the baby.

“Well, here you go Harry. Come on,” she said leading him to a couch and handing the baby in his arms. Harry held Teddy closely to him, still a bit afraid that he would do something wrong and hurt him.

“Hi, Teddy. I’m Harry, your godfather,” he said. Ginny smiled at him and sat beside him. Harry just looked down at the baby, who was looking up at him. “We’re going to have some fun together. I’ll make sure of that. I knew all your family and I will tell you stories about them when you are old enough. You won’t have to worry about anything because there are lots of people around you that love you,” Harry told the baby. Teddy raised his fist and put it in his small mouth. Harry gave the baby a little tickle, causing him to giggle with happiness. Teddy looked straight at Harry and changed his hair to the exact style and colour of Harry’s. They both roared with laughter, the baby smiling as if impressed with himself.

“He must like you.” Andromeda walked in then, with a tray in her hands. She sat down on the couch opposite Harry and Ginny. “He looks happier now you have come. He hasn’t changed his hair colour for a long time. Must know something has happened, poor baby,” Andromeda said weakly. Ginny got up and went over to the other couch, pulling Andromeda into her arms.
Ginny poured out tea for each of them and passed a cup to Harry. Harry felt more comfortable with the baby in his arms and took sips of his.
“Well, thanks for coming today. Teddy looks happy to see you as well. I haven’t been able to get him to sleep, he just cries.” She looked like she was going to cry again but stopped herself right away. “Would you mind taking him for a few days? Its not that I don’t want to look after him, its just I really am very tired and I do need to plan a few funerals.” At this a single tear dropped from her eye.
“Of course, that would be fantastic.” Harry had hoped she would say that because he wondered whether he would be able to let go of the baby that was now sleeping happily in his arms. “And Mrs. Weasley asked if you would like to come over to the Burrow for lunch?”
Harry and Ginny looked at Andromeda with looks that she thought meant they would not take no for an answer. “Thanks. I figured Molly wouldn’t let me say no, never mind you two.” At this, they all broke out into fits of laughter. “Ill just go get Teddy’s things ready.”

*************************

“Hi Andromeda, it is lovely to see you!” Molly looked at the bundle of blankets in Harry’s hands and squealed in eagerness to see the baby. “And this must be Teddy,” she looked at Harry and asked, “May I?”
Harry handed her Teddy and went to sit on a chair in the kitchen. Ginny followed him placing her arms around his waist, “You probably shouldn’t have given her Teddy, she won’t ever let go of him again!” Harry just smirked at the thought. He thought this was the best way to keep Mrs. Weasley’s mind off of Fred and immediately accepted the offer. “So are you hungry?”
Harry nodded and Ginny walked to the over side and filled his plate with his favourites, egg, bacon and sausages. Harry dug into them straight away. He missed Mrs. Weasley’s cooking and silently hoped Ginny’s was just as good.
