Bio v4.0 ... Now with July 21st update!
Let's see. I'm an 18 year old high school graduate from the States with a deep and abiding love for british literature, particularly Harry Potter and the Jeeves and Wooster books by P.G. Wodehouse. (Hence the penname) I was the first kid in my entire town to read Harry Potter as far as I can figure, and loved it so much I had the second book shipped over from Britain before it came out in the States. I like to say that I was a Harry Potter fan before it was cool to be a Harry Potter fan...
Aside from Harry Potter, I am a vociferous reader and own over 800 books (and counting). I love to read! I also love movies and music and basically any other form of entertainment. My tastes are wide and I like basically anything that offers any kind of entertainment value, down to trashy romance novels, silly disco songs, and explosion filled action films, but also up to classic novels, high brow classical orchestra pieces, and artsy foreign films. Basically anything.
I love writing with a passion and plan to be a writer when I "grow up". I got started in fanfiction two years ago when my friend (whose penname is Jeeves) hooked me into cowriting House M.D. (fantastic television show! watch it!!!) fanfiction, which can be read at the fanfiction dot net site. The fanfic world sucked us in, dragging Jeeves into the world of Phantom of the Opera phics just as surely as it dragged me into Harry Potter fics.
And now before this starts to sound like a personal ad...some info about the pertinant stuff: my writing.
Style: I love words. I'm not sure if it's a good or bad thing where my writing is concerned. As far as I can tell it translates to a highly varied diction and heavy use of things like paradox, alliteration, and other word play. I prefer to add romance to every story as life is just better that way and only write happy endings. I write both lighter comedies and darker stories, though I tend more towards drama than heavy angst, but it will always end well for my characters, even if they have a long hard path to get there.
'Shipping policies: Strictly a canon 'shipper. Harry belongs with Ginny, Ron belongs with Hermione etc. etc. etc. There are very few exceptions to this, the only consistent one being Neville/Luna as I think they're adorable even though J.K. has officially stated they will not be together. I will read a FEW other 'ships, if very well justified, but will never write them.
Other misc. policies: I love the canon, so why should I blatantly disregard it? I strongly believe in holding true to the original work...meaning that A/U stories (which I love) should work within the realm, tweaking and experimenting but NOT redefining. Changes must be justified.
Stories:
Exchange Series: An A/U series based off the "When Harry Met Ginny" challenge. A rewrite of canon starting with the change of Ginny writing to Harry after the events of Halloween first year. Will incorporate facts from ALL books in canon, including Deathly Hallows when it comes out. Status: Currently working on book one, "Fantasy for Truth." There should only be a few more chapters, as not much changes plotwise this early on. Most of the next three books in the series are planned out plotwise, but are not written. Updates should be moderately slow, but not terribly so. Look for major deviations from canon starting in book two and accelerating beyond control come the end of book two/beginning of book three.
Harry Potter's Day Off: Silly fluff based off of the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off." Canon through OotP, disregards all of HBP. Harry is stressed to the point of exhaustion and is jumpy as a jackrabbit after learning he has to destroy Voldemort. Ginny notices and enlists the twins to break him out of Hogwarts for a day of magic and mayhem in London. Status: Part one of three or five completed...entire plot planned out, but the story is on hold until I nail down book one of the Exchange series.
Cowritten stuff: I work with crazyredhead quite a bit, as she's a good friend. The work relationship mostly consists of her coming up with ridiculously good ideas and me not being able to resist getting my hand in writing with her. Things we are working on include a highly original time travel fic found here called "Hopes Rebirth" and two future fics...one light comedy called "Obey" based loosely on "Ella Enchanted" and a fascinating A/U in which Harry finds the letter Dumbledore left with him as a baby at the age of six.
Non SIYE stuff: I also have an account on ffn.net which holds everything that I can't post here. This includes a comedic James/Lily fic that is currently on hiatus, a sweet one-shot about Harry's glasses, (which may become a longer fic that I can post here), and a lot of co-written works with another friend that take place in a different fandom, that of "House M.D." Check it out, if you like the show.
JULY 21st. Have read entirety of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Attended midnight release party dressed as Tonks in muggle wear, complete with purple (couldn't find pink) spiked hair and home-made Weird Sister's band shirt. Shirt was from the (made-up) "Real Women Snog Werewolves Tour." :) Got book at midnight (exactly) arrived home with book/began reading at 12:20, finished book at 11:15 a.m. Am irritated I didn't finish it quicker but I ended up needing to take two ten-to-twenty minute catnaps. Will begin re-reading (slower) tomorrow. Enjoyed the book immensely, though I'm still not sure where it rates among the books for me. For now will say that I am shocked but satisfied. And very sleepy. Going to sleep.
Toodlepip, everyone. Enjoy your reading.
