Once again I am here. I mean, it’s bad enough that, once again, it’s Christmas, but I have no one to share it with. Yeah, I have my family, but come on! That’s my family!
Ron has Hermione. Oh, are they happy. It’s sickening. Extremely sickening. I mean, they don’t even show affection! Well, in public. It’s like they don’t know each other in public. But behind closed doors…Mum wouldn’t be too happy. Let’s keep it at that.
I wish I had someone. A certain someone I’ve had my eye on since I’ve been about eleven. A certain, Boy-who-lived that has the most gorgeous eyes ever, the cutest tousled hair, and the hottest scar ever…
Yeah, so what? I’m in love with Harry! I admit it! I. Love. Harry. Potter. What are you going to do about it?
I don’t understand the concept of Christmas in the muggle world. They just care about gifts; they do have a good selection. This year I decided to get everyone muggle gifts. So Dad took me when he was going to work. He was going to come with me, but I am fifteen now. I’ve been through a lot. Ever since last year.
I don’t want to get into that. I’m simply going to put it that Harry has brought a temporary peace. You-Know-Who isn’t gone yet, but it may be a while before he’s back. Harry finally has a chance to life a bit, and he’s living it happily. I love seeing him like this. It makes everyone so joyful to see him finally happy. He isn’t living with the Dursley’s anymore. He’s taken up and Grimauld Place with Lupin. Secondly, he just looks so cute.
So I got into London, and went shopping. I had exchanged my money earlier, so I was set. Checked off the names from my list as the day went on. Last but not least, Harry. What to get the love of my life? Oh Merlin, I had no idea.
I had wondered into a place called a, CP? No, CD, yeah, that’s it. A CD store. I was testing out the CDs, and found this wicked Christmas mix CD. So I bought it, along with a thing to buy the CD, for myself. A little gift for being top in my year. Anyway, I was thinking of what to get Harry while listening to this CD. I came to this song. It was amazing! It was called, “All I want for Christmas is you.” Some singer with a strange name, Maruy Caria or something. But it was a good song.
It talked about how, obviously, all someone wanted for Christmas was this person. How ironic! It read my mind!
The day was winding down, and I had to get Harry something. So I decided on a book on weird occurrences during certain times of the year, and some candy. Oh well. I guess he’ll never know.
Now it’s Christmas Eve. The whole family is here at the Burrow. Harry is here too. Duh. Fred, George, Percy (who finally pulled his head out of Fudge’s butt), Charlie, Bill (and Fleur *winkwink*), Ron, Hermione, Lupin, Tonks (who had gotten quite friendly with each other), Moody, Dumbledore, McGonagall. A few more too. I know a lot of people. But Mum loves it all.
I’m sitting alone in my room, listening to my CD. The song, of course.
“I don’t want a lot for Christmas. There is just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents, underneath the Christmas tree,” I sing.
“GINNY! DINNER!” Mum calls. I throw my CD player down and go to dinner.
Dinner is eaten with happiness and laughter. I sit next to Harry. My heart is pounding. I just want to reach out and grab his hand. Its right there. Do it Ginny. DO IT! I don’t. Duh.
Once dinner is done, it’s my job to clean up. Mum cooks, Ginny cleans. That’s always how it’s been. I levitate my CD player down and listened to it.
Since there are many people at dinner, there’re many dishes for me to do. Everyone is laughing and enjoying this night. Well, I’m not. I never enjoy Christmas Eve. Actually I do. But this part I don’t.
So here I am, cleaning up. I’ve gotten through about four sets of plates. That means only about fourteen left to go. Lovely. I’m listening to my music, singing aloud to it.
“I just want you for my own, more than you could ever know. Make my wish come true. All I want for Christmas is you,” I sing. The music isn’t very loud, since I never know when Mum will call me.
“Ginny? Want some help?” someone asks from the doorway.
“Huh?” I turn around. Oh Merlin, it’s Harry. My cheeks flush red. “S-sure.”
“What were you listening to?” he smiles. My heart melts.
“Just a Christmas CD. All I want for Christmas, something or other,” I answer. I didn’t want to actually say the name of the song, because I might jump on him and snog him senseless.
“I’ve heard that before. I think. It’s not a bad song.”
“No, its not. Thanks for helping.”
“No problem. I saw you in here all alone and I thought you might like some company. And help.” You have no idea Harry. “So what are your Christmas wishes this year?”
“My Christmas wishes? For everything to be over and peace to finally come.”
“You sound like a Weasley.”
“I thought I was one! Are you saying I’m not? Is there something you know and I don’t?”
“Oh no, no! Just have the ‘world peace’ wish. Very Weasley-ish.”
“Right, Harry, right.” Oh he looked so cute drying the plates I was handing to him. “What’s your special wish then?”
“If I say it, it won’t come true.”
“You should have told me that before I asked for world peace! You prat!”
“I’m sorry! Let’s say about material objects and stuff. Not ideas.”
“Fine. Good thing you dug yourself out of that hole.”
“Close one huh?” We were finishing up. Having him there was a big help. All the dishes were done in record time.
“Thanks again Harry. I can’t say how much this meant to me.”
“Your welcome. Anytime you need something, don’t hesitate to ask.” I need you, can I ask for you?
We go into the parlor with everyone else. It was the usual after-dinner Christmas stuff. There is jokes, gossip, etc. We play games and laugh about them. I love this part, but my heart is still empty in one place. With all the love in this room, I didn’t have the one kind I longed for.
“Oh, look at Ron and Hermione. Come on you two, get cozy. We’ll keep Mum and Dad busy,” Fred joked.
“But everyone else you have to worry about yourselves,” George added.
“Sod off you two,” Ron replied, turning red.
“Oops!” Fred laughed, falling into Hermione’s lap. “Excuse me! Since my brother does nothing, would you-”
“Fred, leave her alone!” Ron said. Everyone laughed at Ron’s anger. I took a glance at Harry and he winked. I just love that wink.
“Fred, look at our baby sister. All grown up!” George said, acting like he was tearing up.
“I see George. To bad no man has swept her off her feet yet,” Fred answered, sitting next to me. He saw me looking Harry’s way. “Ah Harry! Just the man I was talking about!”
“What are you two getting at?” Harry said, smiling.
“Oh, nothing,” George said, sitting next to Fred, “nothing at all.”
“You two need to shut up before I jinx you,” I said.
“Well, since you said that,” Fred laughs, “then we will. We don’t want any trouble Miss…”
Order members started to leave. The house was beginning to go back to the normal capacity rate. Although I didn’t want the fun to end, I needed a little time to myself.
Once everything was cleaned up, the family, plus Harry and Hermione decided to go to sleep. I told them I’d be up later. That would also give Hermione and Ron a little time together. I mean, I don’t want to witness what they are going to do. It is Christmas Eve, for crying out loud. I don’t want to see any of it. Especially since I can’t do that since I don’t have anyone.
But life goes on. I decided not to listen to my song. It would make me even more depressed. I sat in front of our Christmas tree, watching the lights on it. So peaceful.
It begins to snow outside. I stand at the window, watching the snow fall gently onto the ground. I have no idea if I’ve ever seen a more beautiful sight. So perfect.
It gets me how I can be like this on Christmas Eve. It’s about eleven thirty. I feel no need to go to sleep yet. I’m back on the couch now, but sitting.
I sigh. I love Harry. I want to tell him. But I can’t. It gets me on why I can’t, but I can’t muster up the courage. So much for the Courageous Ginny Weasley.
I’ve been in relationships before. I mean there was Michael Corner (big mistake) and Dean (even bigger mistake), but that’s about all. Had a small fling with a seventh year. Ron didn’t like hearing about that. Okay, so I didn’t. I was just kidding.
“Ginny? That you?”
Oh. My. God. It’s Harry. I pray my hormones don’t act on me.
“Yeah, it’s me. What are you doing up Harry?”
“Couldn’t sleep. Reasons: Not tired and Ron and Hermione.” I stifle a laugh as he smiles. So cute. “Why are you up.”
“It’s Christmas Eve. It’s hard to sleep knowing tomorrow you get to give and receive gifts. And I don’t feel like going to sleep yet.”
“You have a big heart. You know that right?”
“Thank you. And no, no one has ever told me that.”
“Well you do. Don’t let anyone make you think otherwise. You were there for me this summer. I never thanked you for it.”
“You don’t have to thank me. I was glad that you could talk to me. I don’t know how you felt, but I was feeling bad too.”
“Remus gave me Sirius’ Christmas present before he left.”
“Oh Harry,” I sigh, “did you open it?”
“No yet. I wanted to open it with you.”
“That’s an honor.” Harry took the present from his pocket. It was a little box. A note was on it. “Will you read the note aloud?”
Harry nodded and opened it. “Dear Harry, happy Christmas! I bet I’m gone by now, since you are receiving this note. I’m sorry I left you. But I’ll always be with you. Remember, the ones you truly love never really leave you. I love you Harry. Just don’t grow up to fast. This was your mother’s, and she gave it to me to keep safe while they were in hiding with you. I know you know what to do with it. From, Sirius.” I looked at him. I expected him to be crying, but he was smiling, package still wrapped.
“Harry?”
“He came to me in a dream not to long ago. He talked to me, and it put me at peace inside. I know exactly what he is saying. He knew me inside and out.”
I didn’t know what to say. I got up and went to the window, watching the snow continue to fall to the ground. I start to hum my song. I heard him open the gift.
“Ginny what do you want for Christmas? Truthfully.”
“Nothing.” I am a terrible liar. “Really.”
“Well, do you want to know what I want for Christmas?”
I did, but I couldn’t bring myself to say yes. “Shh Harry, just look out the window.” I continue to hum. He came and stood behind me.
“Ginny, who’s that song about?”
“What do you mean?”
“It has to be about someone. It can’t just be about no one. You are singing to someone.”
“Maybe I am. Maybe I’m not.” I can’t turn and face him.
“There’s something I want to give you, although you say you want nothing.” I felt something on my neck. I began to turn but he stopped me. Something fell to my neck. I look at in my reflection in the window. It was a necklace. It was so beautiful; it was a heart, with to stones on either side.
“Harry, it’s beautiful.”
“It was my mother’s. Sirius’ gift. This meant the world to her, he told me in the letter. I didn’t read it all. He said that my dad gave it to her when they finally started going out.”
“I can’t accept this Harry.”
“I think you can. It’s my present to you.”
I turn to him. He’s looking down at me with those gorgeous green eyes, with something I’ve never seen in his eyes. Love. It was love. My heart jumped.
“Harry, I didn’t get you anything like this. I had no idea, so I got the practical gift.”
“Well, I have a request for a gift,” he said softly.
“What? I’ll give you anything you want.”
“Actually it’s two things.” He smiled. God, he’s so sweet. And polite. “First, will you sing for me? Sing that song.”
So I sang. “I don’t want a lot for Christmas; there is just one thing I need. I don’t care about the presents, underneath the Christmas tree. I just want you for my own; more than you will ever know. Make my wish come true. All I want for Christmas for you…”
“You can sing, you know that Miss Weasley.”
“Thank you. And what’s your other gift request?”
“What’s the last line of that song?” he said, looking at me in the eyes.
“All I want for Christmas is you.”
“So that’s what you want for Christmas?”
“What?”
“Well, that’s my other gift request. All I want for Christmas is you.” And at that moment, he moved in, and kissed me. When we parted, I saw him smile at me once more.
“Harry Potter, what would give you that idea?”
“I don’t know, only that you’ve been singing it constantly, your brothers’ remarks earlier, you haven’t taken the necklace off, and you kissed back.”
“That’s all? Well, I’m afraid it won’t work. It’s not even Christmas yet!” The clock chimed midnight. It was Christmas.
“Well, now it is.” He leaned down and kissed me again. “Happy Christmas. Looks like all I got for Christmas was you.”
