A/N This is my first story. Hope you enjoy it, it was fun to write.

Harry was eating lunch one warm spring day in his 6th year, when he overheard Seamus Finnigan planning a muggle activity with the Creevey brothers and Hermione.
"What are they up to?", Ron mumbled while chewing his food.
"I'm not sure", Harry replied, "someting to do with the great weather we've been having."
The two watched as Hermione, Seamus, and Colin approached the staff table and spoke with Professor Dumbledore.
"Close your mouth when you chew, Ron" Ginny said as she took the seat next to Harry. "What do you guys have planned for today?"
Harry answered, "Nothing really, you?"
As she opened her mouth to reply, Hermione ran up with a big grin on her face. "Professor Dumbledore approved our idea!" she exclaimed. "Fliers will be posted this evening in the common room." Before they could react, she had left the Great Hall.
Harry, Ron, and Ginny hurried back to Gryffindor Tower that night after an exhausting Quidditch practice, with Katie Bell as their coach.
"And I thought Oliver Wood was bad" sighed Harry, as Ginny gave the password "ton-tongue toffee" and they clambered through the portrait hole.

"Look", Ron pointed at the bulletin board, "the flier Hermione mentioned." Excited whispers could be heard as they crossed the common room to read it.
"Hogwarts is having a Muggle style picnic day on Friday", Ginny clapped excitedly, "they're even cancelling classes."
A collective groan was heard from Ron and Harry, "best-dressed Muggle boy and girl?" just as Hermione joined them.
"There will also be a watermelon eating contest, swimming,..." "Did you say eating contest?" Ron interrupted. "Are you ever NOT hungry Ron?" Harry smirked, before he and Ginny burst into laughter.
"Hem hem" Hermione cleared her throat and continued, "and kite flying too. Ginny, would you help me set things up tomorrow afternoon?" Ginny nodded affirmatively and the two friends wandered away, deep in conversation.
"Ron", cried Harry, "who will I go with?"
"Relax, surely someone will agree to be your date," grinned Ron, "a certain redhead perhaps?"
Harry pondered this "You really think she'd say yes?"
"Would who say yes?" Ginny inquired as she re-joined them. Ron pushed Harry forward.
"Go on, ask" he whispered. "Uh, Ginny" Harry began, "would you, um, go with me to the picnic day?"
"Yes Harry, I'd really enjoy that." she replied. The three of them talked more about the fun day ahead, before drifting off to their dormitories for some much needed rest.

An air of excitement was in the Great Hall the next morning as the foursome ate breakfast. Everywhere Harry looked, people were excitedly talking about the picnic the following day. His attention was drawn back to his friends when he heard Hermione ask Ron to man the barbecue.
"What do I know about grilling, Hermione?" he complained.
"Relax Ron, you'll do fine, Colin will be helping." she explained.
Harry exchanged a small smile with Ginny at Ron muttering "Easy for you to say." under his breath. After talking with Seamus about the contest prizes, Hermione and Ginny left for class, and the boys quickly finished eating and headed off to class themselves. The day passed quickly, and Harry soon found himself in a heated chess game with Ron.
"You're getting very good at this," Ron admitted, "Checkmate." Harry and Ron both laughed and started putting the chess pieces away. Loud giggling could be heard from the corner of the common room, where Ginny was telling her friends about her date the next day. Harry grinned happily at her excitement, he too could hardly wait.

The day of the picnic dawned, and Harry stood at his wardrobe wondering what to wear.
"Honestly Harry," Ron smirked, "you're worse than a girl. She'll think you look great, no matter what you have on."
He hurried to finish getting ready, and the two of them headed down to the common room. Ginny jumped up from the couch and linked arms with Harry.
"Have fun Ron," she called over her shoulder, "don't burn the meat!"
The two of them talked about quidditch and classes as they made their way to the front lawn, where the picnic was in full swing.
***
"What would you like to do first?" Harry asked. Ginny smiled and took his hand. "Swim first, then fly a kite and eat."
They quickly disrobed and jumped in the lake, splashing and laughing. An hour went by, and Ginny climbed out to towel off.
"Quidditch playing is definitely doing her some good," Harry thought to himself. He joined Ginny and began toweling off as well and they got dressed in silence.
"Harry", Ginny laughed, "look over there." He turned in the direction she was pointing and spotted Ron jumping around frantically in front of the BBQ, as the fire got out of control. Hermione had apparently expected this, and started spraying water at the flames from a garden hose.
"Wow," Harry exclaimed, "she really did think of everything."
Draco Malfoy walked by with Pansy Parkinson, eyeing Ginny in the process.
"Potty and the Weasel," he growled.
"Harry, my Bat-bogey hex needs some practice," Ginny began, "know anyone who'd be willing to help me with that?"
Draco's eyes got big and he took off at a fast pace, with Pansy in tow. Harry and Ginny dissolved into giggles as they headed over to fly a kite.
***
Along the way, they passed by several Gryffindors and admired their choice of outfits.
"Muggles have pretty good taste," commented Ginny.
"Yes, they sure do," agreed Harry, "but not when it comes to that." He indicated Professor Dumbledore, who was wearing plaid pants and a yellow shirt with bowling shoes.
"I'd sure like to see Professor Snape in that outfit, wouldn't you?" Ginny asked.
They exchanged a smile as they stepped up to pick a kite. Harry patiently showed Ginny how to wind and unwind the string, to make the kite fly better.
"I wish I had a camera," he thought, as he noticed the joyful look on her face.
Ginny was watching him out of the corner of her eye.
"If only he knew how happy he makes me," she thought. "I'd love to get into a sack with him!" She blushed at this and turned away slightly.
A bell sounded signaling it was time to eat. Harry wound the string in and returned the kite to the booth. He re-joined Ginny and, taking her hand, led her to a picnic table for two. They opened up the basket provided and began setting out their feast. After dining on chicken, potato salad, and chips, the couple decided to check out the watermelon-eating contest.
"Did you know Neville signed up?", Ginny questioned. Harry shook his head no and the two of them watched in amazement as Neville ate piece after piece, beating even Greg Goyle.
"He really ate all of that?" Harry shook his head in disbelief.
Suddenly, the loudspeaker crackled to life and they heard Hermione's voice.
"The winners of the best-dressed Muggle boy and girl are...Seamus Finnigan and Parvati Patil."
Ginny and Harry looked on as Parvati and Seamus, dressed in cut-offs and t-shirts, collected their prize, a 10 galleon gift certificate to the Three Broomsticks.
"They look great," Harry remarked, "the matching sunglasses and baseball caps were a nice touch."
Ginny nodded in agreement and they began walking towards the castle.
***
As they arrived at the front doors, Harry pulled Ginny aside and took both her hands in his.
"I've had a wonderful time today," he spoke softly, "and would like you to be..."
She leaned forward and kissed him tenderly.
"You were saying?", Ginny inquired as they drew apart. Before he could respond, someone tapped him on the shoulder.
"Harry!", Ron bellowed, "what do you think you're doing?"
"Just do it Ron, just hit me. You're not going to hurt me," Harry calmly replied, "I really like your sister and want her to be my girlfriend."
Ron smiled. "I knew you'd come around mate." He patted both of them on the back and walked into the castle.
Harry turned to Ginny, who had a look of surprise on her face.
"Did you really mean it Harry? You want to be my boyfriend?"
"I meant every word, and there's nothing I'd like more." he replied.
They kissed again, and turned to go inside. Ginny sighed contentedly and vowed to ask Professor Dumbledore to make Muggle picnic day an annual event.
