Harry Potter wrinkled his nose as he walked into his new home. “Ginny, what is that smell?”
His fiancée was standing over the stove stirring a cauldron of some confection. “It’s chocolate for the party.”
“Ah yes, but that’s two weeks, three days, four hours and nineteen and one-half minutes away. Why are you making candy now?” He walked up behind her placing his hands on her waist.
“Because I have a lot of things to do between then and now. This is only the beginning. Don’t forget, the Harpies are playing Puddlemere this weekend. I expect you and Ron to be there.” Gin looked over her shoulder placing a kiss on his lips.
“Have I missed any of your games so far?”
She smirked before speaking. “Well no, but who knows when we’re talking about the dynamic duo of Potter and Weasley, Aurors.” Ginny dipped her finger into the melting chocolate and placed it on his nose.
Harry wrinkled his nose to see what she had done. "Ginny, that's so sticky.”
“Oh, let me get it off.” She raised an eyebrow at him before taking a couple licks of the bridge of his nose. Ginny placed a kiss on his lips before turning back to the cauldron.
“Now remind me why we’re having a Valentine’s Day party?” Harry crossed the kitchen to the kettle sitting on the cabinet. He waved his wand over it to heat the water, and then Harry was busy making a cup of Irish breakfast tea.
“It’s simple love. I play on a team of women. Our boyfriends, fiancés and husbands don’t have to worry about where to take their love for the night. You and I are hosting an informal gathering of friends and teammates. Neville beautifully did the garden and he will be putting some warming charms for anyone that wants to go out there. It’s the first party we’ll have hosted in the house and we live the closest to the team pitch,” she explained for the umpteenth time.
Harry paused before heading to the den carrying his tea. “Just make sure that Angelina and Alicia know not to let Fred and George near the food or drinks. I don’t want a repeat of the party we had at the flat.”
Ginny sighed, “Yes dear,” before returning to her melting chocolate.
~*~*~*~
Two weeks, three days, four hours and nineteen minutes later, Harry and Ginny were standing in their living room waiting for the guests to arrive. They had hired a few of the locals from Godric’s Hollow to serve drinks and take care of the guests at the party. One of the hired staff was standing at the door to take the guests cloaks and usher them to the Host and Hostess.
The door chimed as the first couple arrived. Seamus and Lavender Finnegan walked through the door and were surprised when the doorman asked for their cloaks. The pair handed them over to the gentleman as Harry and Gin walked over to them.
“Welcome to The Hollow.” Harry extended his hand to his old roommate. “Samuel is at the bar and can help you with whatever you would like to drink.”
Lavender was giving Ginny a hug. “The house looks beautiful. I can’t believe that you just moved in here.”
“Thank you Lav. Most everything was decorated and settled before we ever left the flat.”
Seamus led his wife to the bar, which was always his first port of call at any gathering.
More guests arrived and Harry and Ginny greeted them all in kind. Many of their old school friends, Ginny’s teammates from the Harpies and Harry’s co-workers were milling around catching up on the latest news and gossip.
Ginny was chatting with Sheila McKnoll, a chaser for Puddlemere United when someone placed their hands on her waist.
"Make one move and you will live to regret it," said the dark, throaty voice from behind her.
“Stop that!” Ginny laughed. “It tickles!” She turned and was looking into the eyes of Oliver Wood.
“Ok, I think I should, Harry is giving me dirty looks.” Oliver smiled. “When are you going to let me recruit you away from the Harpies?”
Ginny looked thoughtful for a moment. “Um, when you can actually beat the Harpies, I might consider it, but I am not moving to Scotland.”
“And what is wrong with Scotland?” The proud Scot asked, his normal soft brogue deeper than normal.
“Not a thing, but we just built the house and plan to raise our family here. Wales is a wonderful place to bring up children, hadn’t you heard?” Ginny looked at Katie, who was standing beside them. “And when are you going to make Katie an honest woman?”
“When she leaves the Harpies,” he replied with a saucy smile.
Gin nodded her head at him. “Oh, so you want to take the Gryffindor Three from the Harpies then?” She said, using the name that the Quidditch reporters had dubbed her, Katie and Angelina.
“Of course, but Angelina refuses to ever play for me again. I have no idea why,” he said casually.
The previous members of the Gryffindor Quidditch team had converged around the conversation as it was happening. Fred and George both had looks of surprise when they heard Oliver’s statement.
Harry was laughing beside Angie, Alicia and Katie as they remembered Wood’s inspired pep talks before games.
“Wood, it could be the words... ‘Get the snitch or die trying,’ that could keep players from joining United?” Harry commented.
Oliver just kept smiling. “That wouldn’t matter since they aren’t seekers. And you wanted to play super Auror, so I have to deal with what I have.”
“Well, I would have joined the Cannons anyway. Ron would have killed me otherwise.”
“Too bloody right!” Ron interjected. He had his arms wrapped around Hermione.
“See, but let’s leave this conversation for another time. It’s Valentine’s Day and I want to spend some time with my Valentine.” Harry reached his hand out to Ginny and led her away from the rabid Puddlemere captain.
The pair walked away from their guests to the garden just off the patio. Harry unconsciously directed her to the memorial bench that Ginny has placed for his parents. She sat down beside him as Harry wrapped his arms around her slim frame.
Harry looked down into her eyes. “Do you know how much I love you?”
“Could I chance a guess of about the same amount that I love you?” Ginny’s hand slid through Harry’s hair.
He leaned down and kissed her softly. “I believe that would be a fair assessment.”
They sat staring into each other’s eyes for a few moments. The both of them would do this for hours if they could get away with it.
After a bit, Harry leaned back and was digging in his robes for something. He found it.
“I got you a gift,” he said quietly and passed the small box to her.
Ginny took the box from him, opening it slowly. A three stone diamond pendant sat on the blue velvet. She looked up him.
“The stones mean something. It’s a Muggle thing. The first stone means our past, the middle stone means our present and the last stone stands for our future. I wanted to thank you for giving me all three.”
“Oh, Harry...” Ginny sat the box in her lap and captured his lips again. “There is no one else that I would have gone on this journey with but you.”
He watched as she reached into her cloak for something. Ginny handed him a box about the same size as the one he had just given her.
“Open it,” she encouraged him.
Harry opened the box to reveal a man’s signet ring. It was set in antique silver with his initials in emeralds.
“Thank you,” Harry gave her a small kiss.
“Look inside at the inscription.”
There wasn’t enough light outside to see it. As he reached for his wand, Harry noticed Ginny taking her wand out and saying Lumos.
He could read the words, ‘amour abi semper’. Harry looked up at her for the translation.
“It says ‘love you always’ in Latin. Put it on, and you will understand more.”
He placed the ring on his right ring finger and could feel warmth fill his body on the chilly evening. Harry felt like he was wrapped in Ginny’s arms, and that was a feeling he could never get enough of.
“When ever you wear the ring, you will feel my love for you. I wanted you to have a little bit of me when you are on duty. So, you always remember that someone is waiting for you at home.” Tears began to fall from her chocolate brown eyes.
He pulled her into his arms, whispering in her ear, “I always know that you are waiting for me, but thank you for giving me a daily reminder.” Harry kissed his love again.
