Ginny Weasley was preparing for her O.W.L.s, sighing as she practised the charm for the millionth time. She flipped the page to the next one, which was equally hard. The sofa was almost too comfortable; she could fall asleep anytime.
Her boyfriend, who was currently in detention with Snape, threatened to invade her thoughts once again. It had been a week since The Match, and she still couldn't believe that Harry liked her, her. She was no one special, but he made her feel so important. She knew that she'd fallen for him, very hard indeed and that the childish crush had long since changed into something much fierce.
It was funny how she hadn't realised how much he affected her, firmly ignoring those feelings, but now it was so obvious. The way he smiled these days, he looked happy and so much more like a teenager he should be. His intense gaze, the awe and admiration for her, flushed her with happiness and pride.
She sighed, returning to her book and chuckled when she read "This charm requires utmost concentration", giving herself a mental shake, she tried again, only to be distracted a few seconds later.
She was about to give up when her brother came and dropped into the armchair opposite her. Welcoming the distraction, she looked up from her book only to find Ron staring intently at her.
"Er, hi? " she said, confused.
"Ginny, I want to talk to you about something important," he had an unreadable expression on his face.
"Okay?" she replied. Why did he look so serious, "Is everyone okay?"
"Everyone's fine, it's about you and Harry, and finally, since he's in detention and Hermione's in the library, I can talk to you,"
She gaped.
If he was going to say anything foolish or "brotherly", Merlin save him.
"Ron, for the last time, I don't need your permission," she replied, annoyed.
"I know you don't." He replied calmly. That didn't make sense.
"I'm here to talk about Harry," he said.
"I don't understand," she said, completely nonplussed.
"Ginny, look, you've switched three boyfriends in the last 2 years-" He said.
'Wow, Ron, funnily enough, I think I know that much already," maybe he was just trying to annoy her.
"Can you please stop interrupting?" Ron said with a huff.
"Fine, go ahead," she said and fell silent.
He took a deep breath before continuing, "Don't dump Harry."
She made a move to speak, but the look he had caused the voice to die in her throat, "Ginny, I know this is unusual because I should be giving this talk to Harry, but I know he doesn't need it; he's been around your brothers long enough," He said grinning, unsure of where this was going, she just nodded.
"But you haven't been around him. No, listen- as in close to him. Yes, last year, but I've known him for six years, and he's happy, Ginny, he's happier than I've ever seen him- except maybe in the first year. But since then, I've never seen him so carefree, so normal."
She couldn't believe Ron was saying all that; it must have shown because he scowled at her and said, "I'm not an insensitive git."
She chuckled, "Of course not," but this side of Ron did make her rethink her analysis.
"I'm not done, Ginny, I don't know how, but you're not the same as Cho. With Cho, he looked nervous, uncertain, with you- I don't know- he's confident, he's relaxed. The point is, he's not the kind of guy who'll break up with you; he just can't hurt anyone; besides, your Bat-Bogeys are quite useful in scaring off guys." He said the last bit with a hint of pride in his voice.
"Do shut your mouth- the flies will get in,"
Blinking, she closed her mouth, "Thanks, Ron, that's really nice, coming from you,"
He just shook his head, "I don't think you understand the seriousness of the situation. You've grown close to him, close in ways that only Hermione and I have, that means that he's vulnerable to you now,"
"Harry values friendship and love above everything, Ginny, and you're one of the three people whom he's shown every side he has to. You've become so important to him that he wouldn't be able to bear losing you, your thing," she bit her lip at his refusal to say relationship; he could be cute sometimes.
"You can destroy him. I trust you, completely, but you need to know that. You-Know-Who doesn't have the power over him that you now do. His heart, it's gentle, it's very delicate, he doesn't show it, but I know, so you mustn't do anything to break it,"
"He has lesser nightmares these days. For the past five years, whenever I woke up at night, I saw him thrashing, or at least, sleeping uncomfortably. It was horrible. Last year, Neville and I had almost thought about keeping a guard over him, but Ginny, this year, it happens, but many a time, he's sleeping with a smile on his face. That is a very big deal with Harry. Of course, I really don't need to know what exactly he's dreaming about," he finished with a look, but she knew it was just on a surface level.
"The point is if you're not serious about him, and you think it wouldn't work in the long run, break it off now before he falls for you even more, and that's all I've wanted to say,. Oh, and, if he's being a git, you're welcome to try any curse on him; after all, you're still my precious little sister," he finished with a smile.
"But he's almost as much my brother, and so I do care almost equally for him, so don't hurt him," Ron added seriously.
For a few seconds, she just sat there taking everything in, and to her surprise, a lone tear leaked out of her eyes. Now, she usually wasn't so weepy, but she knew what Ron just said was all true, and it overwhelmed her at how very important she was to Harry.
She tackled him with a tight hug, and he just wrapped his hands around her. And for a moment, they were 8 and 9 again, "I will never hurt him, Ron, and thanks for telling me all that, but I'm going to keep him." she ruffled his hair, affectionately, laughing.
"Geroff! Now that we've got that out of the way let's eat! I'm starving," she laughed; some things never changed.
And the moment passed.

It had been five hours since Dumbledore's funeral. She was numb—their headmaster. Dread coursed through every vein. She'd seen the look in Harry's eyes; she knew that whatever was going to happen was going to be very, very bad.
He was going to fulfil his job, and she knew she had to let go of him, but he'd done it himself.
She heard him before she saw him.
"Go away, Ron," she couldn't deal with him, but he came and wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and that is when the tears started pouring out in earnest.
"You said he'll never leave me, Ron! But he did, he left me, and now he has to face Voldemort, you have to face Voldemort, you lied to me-" She bet his chest as angry tears came out in waves until she collapsed onto the ground. Her world was falling apart; every foundation she had was being taken away by that evil bastard. It wasn't fair, but then she thought about what Harry had said, life isn't fair; Ron just looked at her with an unreadable expression and then knelt and smoothed her hair.
"He's going to come back," he said quietly.
"You don't know that." she retorted, wiping her tears.
"I do. He will come back, Ginny, he will. I don't know how, and I don't know when, but he will, and that, I know for sure,"
"The war has begun. We may not come back next year. You need to keep yourself safe; you need to stay alive and never let anyone break your spirits. You're a Weasley, but most importantly, you're Ginevra Molly Weasley, and you're a fire, no one, not even Harry, can diminish that fire."
Ron could be quite inspirational sometimes, and it always surprised her how gentle he could be when they were alone. Maybe he should show this side more often, Hermione might just find the courage to admit she liked him.
He wrapped his arms tightly around her shoulders, and she just leaned into him.
Years ago, when they were all alone, they'd found themselves in a similar position- the thunder had scared Ginny, and she'd creeped up to Ron's room only to find him awake too. That night they'd spent together, counting days till Hogwarts and making plans; in the morning, her mum had just smiled at Ron for being a good big brother, then, they'd gone with their dad to the shed to tinker with some objects, and the moment had passed.
"We'll come back, Ginny, I promise," he whispered, and she was suddenly reminded of how much all of them had grown up and how his eyes were suspiciously bright. He stood up and offered her his hand.
"We shouldn't go back looking like this. Let's go to the kitchens, and maybe we can nick some good hot cocoa." Ginny cracked a smile. Some things never changed, but she was glad to have Ron as her brother. Maybe, just maybe, they'll actually have a future.

Today was one of the happiest days of her life, Harry had proposed yesterday, and they had just announced it to the family. Mum, being mum, had started crying and hugged them until their ribs were sore. Dad had patted Harry on the back, and her brothers, well, they'd threatened Harry, but anyone could tell that they couldn't be happier. And as the dinner ended, everyone went inside to talk about other topics, which today would most likely be their engagement, Ron stayed back.
"Let's go, Ron!" she said, walking up to him.
He flashed a brilliant smile and said, "He came back, didn't he? And now he'll never leave. Congratulations!"
Ginny smiled back, remembering that awful night 6 years ago, and hugged him, "He came back, and so did you, and I couldn't be happier."
They stayed like that for a moment before she saw Harry coming out with a huge grin.
"C'mon guys, they're panning my death over there!" he pretended to look scared, but his happiness shone through.
She snorted, "They won't do anything to you if they know me well, but yes, let's go."
Ron grinned back, "Now you'll be my legal brother. Let's see if mum has some of that shepherd's pie left."
She saw Harry retreat and laughed herself, giving Ron a peck on the cheek. She followed Harry. Some things never changed. And some things shouldn't ever change.

Author's note:
So, there's another one! Firstly, I think Ron often gets overlooked but as the closest to Ginny's age, I think it's quite possible that something like this would happen and also the fact that this was jumping around in my mind for too long. Secondly, please remember, reviews are my only way of knowing if you liked it! Any constructive criticism/suggestion/requests are welcome, and thanks for reading!
