WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE
DISCLAIMER: This is my first (successful) songfic. The song is by M2M and the characters are properties of one JKRowling. I wonder who this man (/woman?) is. The name doesn’t really ring any bell. (wink, wink)
A/N: The song lyrics are in CAPS LOCK. This isn't actually a duet but I made it like Harry and Ginny have their own part of the song and then have lines which they sing together. And the line that goes SHE LOVES ME is the only part that I rectified. It's actually HE LOVES ME but I changed it to suit Harry. ENJOY! :-)
Wanna Be Where You Are
Ginny:
HERE I GO AGAIN
STANDING IN YOUR ARMS, CRYING
She wouldn't let go. She didn’t want to. This was the day she has always dreaded since Dumbledore's funeral. Harry, Ron and Hermione were all going away. Harry's going out there to avenge his parents, Cedric, Sirius, Dumbledore and the whole Wizarding community.
It was time to say goodbye and Harry was holding her tightly. Ginny held on fast to him as if he was her only remaining lifeline. He stroked her red locks and rocked them back and forth as she sobbed in his chest.
"Shush now, Gin," he said gently. "It's all right, it's just like a vacation you can't come with us to." He ran a hand up and down her back and her shaking lessened considerably.
"Y-yes, Harry. But- but you'll be gone very long and we c-can't even owl each other."
Harry wiped her cheeks of tears with his thumb and she beamed back at him.
"But you understand. You know why," he said matter-of-factly.
Ginny had finally calmed down and she looked at everybody watching them. Ron and Hermione, Bill and Fleur, her Mum and Dad, Remus and Tonks, Fred and George, and them - Harry and Ginny.
When the trio goes, only she and Harry will be left without each other, surrounded with couples who had someone else to wrap their arms around other than their own body. It's unfair, her heart shouted, even the twins have each other.
She once again hugged Harry very tightly and said through his shoulder, "You skip along now, Harry. You go kick some Dark Wizard's chalk-white ass!"
Harry:
HERE YOU GO AGAIN
MAKE ME FORGET EVERYTHING
YOU KEEP ME SMILING
"You go kick some Dark Wizard's chalk-white ass!" Ginny exclaimed through his shoulder. Everyone laughed.
It was a joyous thought for Harry that they still could share a good laugh despite what they knew was lurking ahead of them. It was one of the many reasons he like her so much. She always made him laugh. She made him smile and forget the horrible happenings even for a few seconds.
"I will, Gin. I promise I will," he said softly. He let out a heavy sigh and they both let go at the same time. They each turned away from one another and Harry went to say goodbye to the others.
When he reached Mrs. Weasley, she sobbed even harder than Ginny did as he was crushed in her hug. It was several minutes before everyone really let the trio leave.
Harry fought the urge to go back to Ginny and give her a promise kiss, but he thought it was best if he didn't look back at her. When they were a few yards away, though, they heard her shout, "Tell Tom for me he'd be better off with the name Vol 'd Snort!" This made everyone snigger and after another two steps, they all cracked up when she shouted, "or the best: MOULDY-FART!"
"Beats the twins' U-No-Poo," said Hermione with a smile. They walked on until Ginny was out of earshot and they only got some words from her like 'his Mummy,' 'thumb-sucker' and 'red eye contacts.'
A little further away, the trio fell silent, each thinking on their own. Harry smiled; he could have sworn he heard Ginny's voice whispering, so only he could hear, "I love you, Harry. Come back to me safely."
She just keeps him smiling.
H/G:
THEY SAY OUR LOVE'S JUST A PHASE
THAT IT'S JUST FOR SOME DAYS
As far apart as they were from each other, Harry and Ginny’s thoughts strayed back to the days when they were together and happy.
Once in a bathroom in Hogwarts, Ginny heard a group of fourth year girls talking. She was about to come out of her cubicle when she heard her name. Someone was saying that Ginny was only lucky, because Harry was just impressed with her winning the game. The Quidditch euphoria will eventually die out in a few days, and so will Ginny’s luck and Harry’s stupidity.
She might have been really upset but all she could find was an irksome feeling toward those girls. They have become too freakin’ annoying for her liking. She came out at last and saw the one talking was Romilda Vane. The latter was quite shocked but changed track at the speed of Harry’s Firebolt and asked Ginny a question instead. Ginny smiled vindictively at the look on Romilda’s face when she told all of them that Harry indeed have a Hungarian Horntail tattooed on his chest.
Harry, meanwhile, remembered Snape’s snide comments during one of his detentions. He deliberately hinted that beautiful things go as fast as they came and that hasty actions lead to huge regrets in a short while.
Harry ignored this. He did not have to say anything. If it was what Snape knew, well... Harry knew better.
H:
BUT I'M GOING SO FAR
There was nowhere else he wanted to be, but there was a hitch. Harry had to go somewhere far away and do something important. He didn't want to, but he was THE Harry Potter. He couldn’t bear not to go, to just let Tom Riddle have his nasty ways that easily...
And Tom made sure it wouldn’t be easy for Harry either.
G:
I WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE
What kind of life would it be without Harry by her side? She'd always dreamed about it as a little girl, and now that she knew how it felt to be with him, she always wanted to be where he was. She never wanted him to be out of her sight, not if she could help it anyway. But it was clear that this time she really couldn't. She had to let him leave her...
H:
SHE LOVES ME...
She loves me, Harry mused with himself. She could've stopped me - she could've told me not to do it, but she didn't. She didn't want things to be more difficult for me than they already are. She understood.
And Harry was right.
G:
HE LOVES ME...
He loves me, Ginny told herself. He didn't have to let me go - he needed not to sacrifice our relationship, but he did. He didn't want me to be in more harm than I already am. He wanted to save me.
And Ginny was right.
H:
HERE I GO AGAIN
CALLING YOU EVERYDAY
After about two weeks on their journey, Harry, Ron and Hermione finally reached Godric's Hollow. They decided to stay there for some time to regain their strength. All his time there, Harry stayed at his parents' grave. He sat there talking to them about how it was at the Dursleys, the first time he found out he was a wizard, that Hagrid was his very first friend, he told them about Hedwig, Hermione and the Weasleys, how Sirius always reminded him that he was so much like James, his adventure with Dumbledore and finally, Ginny and how she's like Lily.
At night in his bed, Harry only thought about Ginny. He didn't tell Ron and Hermione how hard it was to pretend that he didn't ache with longing for her. He wanted to see her, if only to see her eyes and touch her cheeks. His heart called for her, but that was all it was - a calling... and he wasn't going to receive an answer.
G:
HERE YOU GO AGAIN
MAKE ME FORGET THE LONGING
I LOVE EVERYTHING THAT YOU SAY
Ginny woke up in her sleep, looking around her room. It wasn’t really new to her; she hadn’t slept well since the trio had gone. What bothered her this time was a voice — a voice she’d heard before. It was calling her name...
She couldn’t understand why she heard Harry calling her when she knew he’s far away from where she was. She shrugged it off as a dream. After all, she always dreamed of him being back with her.
Ginny smiled. She loved his voice; she wanted to hear it everyday. Somehow Harry had found a way to reach her — he’d found a way to ease her longing and worry. Even the sound of her name coming from his lips made her tingle.
I just wish I could return you the favor, Harry... lessen your pain. These words were the last she could remember thinking before she dozed back to sleep.
H/G:
THEY SAY OUR LOVE'S JUST A PHASE
BUT WHO BELIEVES THEM ANYWAY?
Nine months had passed since they last held each other. Ginny and the rest hadn’t had news of Harry and the others for a long time now. Where was the Golden Trio?
Ginny could’ve died in frustration and fear. She wanted to know what was going on...
For days now, there were speculations in the village that Voldemort was gone — dead. But so was the hero who made it all happen. He died in the effort, together with his two best friends.
Ginny didn’t believe them, of course. She stood her ground until she and her mum were the only ones waiting for their return. Her Dad and the twins tried to reason with them, there was no point waiting for those who were supposed to be dead. They were never coming back.
But they won’t budge. Hadn’t they learned anything about the Weasley women? Their stubbornness and temper and firm resolve?
Ginny would never give up on Harry; she’d never lose hope. She didn’t before and she definitely wouldn’t after all this time she’d hung on. She always hoped...
Three days ago and miles away from Ginny, a figure in the ruins of the Malfoy manor started to stir. They groped for something in the crumpled floor until it got hold of a long, thin, cylindrical wood. They muttered something and the tip of the wood ignited.
Harry Potter got up to his feet and looked around in the ruin. Ron and Hermione had to be there somewhere, he had to find them.
They’d done it. Voldemort was history. Harry was wounded but it wasn’t bad enough to incapacitate him. He limped around to find his two best friends. There they were, huddled together in a corner, both wounded but looking very happy and relieved at the sight of Harry standing before them.
Harry beamed back at them. It’s over. They can all go back home now...
He could go back to his home — Ginny.
H:
'COZ I'M GOING SO FAR
Harry, Ron and Hermione went back to Godric's Hollow because Harry wanted to visit his parents again. He wanted to say goodbye, because now he can finally let them go. Now that Voldemort's gone, Harry felt he'd given his parents justice... Sirius... Dumbledore... he did it for all of them.
He said his thanks and final goodbye to his parents. He wasn't coming back there until a long time after, because in a few days' time, he'll be far away, with Ginny and it was there where he wanted to stay.
G:
I WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE
Ginny and her mum were talking in their kitchen. Molly reminisced about when Ron and Ginny were only toddlers, how he always used to be protective of her, he was the one who told the twins off for teasing Ginny so much. She was crying all the time as she talked, but Ginny refused to shed a tear for nothing at all. In fact, she hadn't cried since Harry last said goodbye to all of them.
"-and all you wanted to do was read stories about Harry Potter, The-Boy-Who-Lived. You were bugging Arthur to tell you about how Muggles were like, because you knew Harry Potter lived with them. You wanted Bill and Charlie to tell you about a princess named Ginny and a knight called Harry. The knight would slay a very huge monster with his sword and get the princess out of its lair. You said you wanted to marry Harry Potter when you grow up," Molly sniffed and looked at her only daughter. "What do you want to do now, dear?"
"I want to see him, Mum. I just want to be where he is right now, for us to be together."
H:
SHE LOVES ME...
While on their journey back, they heard about the rumors that went around. They were supposed to have died with Voldemort in the battle. This didn't bother Harry at all until Hermione opened up her fears.
"What if they all thought it was true? What if they were all grieving for nothing?"
"Don't say that, Hermione. Mum wouldn’t give up on us - ever."
"No, she wouldn't. And nor would Ginny," Harry answered.
She loves me, Harry told himself again. I know it, I can feel it inside me. She'd be there when I'm back, waiting, as she always did all the time I was gone, for my return.
And Harry was right.
G:
HE LOVES ME...
A day after the kitchen incident, everyone in the Burrow was out in the front yard. It was where they all said goodbye to Harry, Ron and Hermione. Ginny could hear her mum sobbing and the others' talk of grief and lament.
"I could still remember that day, I never wanted them to leave," Molly sobbed more.
"If I could only see Ron again, I'll tell him I'm sorry for all the pranks we've thrown at him," said George, shaking his head at Fred.
Ginny was annoyed, she wanted to tell them off for talking like that - like they were never coming back. Why wouldn't they believe her?
He loves me, Ginny assured herself, closing her eyes. He'll be back. I just know it. He promised he would come back to me. He'll be here in a few minutes now; I can almost feel his presence. He'll smile when he sees me waiting for him.
And Ginny was right.
A shriek of surprise...
She felt pandemonium reign around her...
A voice called her name softly...
She opened her eyes... and she swore loudly.
H/G:
HERE I GO AGAIN
STANDING IN YOUR ARMS, CRYING
"HARRY POTTER - YOU ENORMOUS GIT! WHAT TOOK YOU SO LONG?!"
"Um... got lost?" he cheeked. "And hunting Voldemort wasn't exactly as easy as wanting to see you again."
They threw their arms around each other, half chuckling, half crying. They held tightly, making up for all those times they wanted so much to do this but weren't able to.
The passion they shared was so strong it bounced off to everybody else around. They were all crying (Mrs. Weasley the hardest), even the twins couldn't hide their teary eyes.
Harry fought hard to keep from crying but
couldn't stop himself. He felt that it was the only way to express all his feelings - grief, happiness, triumph, contentment, love - they were all overwhelming him.
As Harry hugged her more tightly, Ginny sobbed even harder. It was the first time she'd cried in nine months. Finally she could shed as much tears as she wanted to, and she wouldn't have to scold herself later because this - having Harry hold her close to him like there's no tomorrow - was more than reason enough to cry out happily.
H/G:
IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN
Their crying stopped after several minutes, simply because their tears had all dried up. They pulled away and looked at each other's face. To Ron and Hermione, it was a familiar scene. There was Ginny with that hard, blazing look, Harry still had his arms around her, and there were very happy people around them, Ron and Hermione included.
They thought they knew what's going to happen next, and Harry didn’t disappoint them. Only this time, he’d thought about it, he’d planned to do it, though he still didn’t worry about the fact that people were watching. Harry kissed her.
It was like winning the Quidditch championship all over again; only this time they had better reasons to celebrate. And yes, like then, it felt like several sunlit days had past before they broke apart.
“Wow,” Ginny said dazedly.
“Yeah,” Harry answered.
There were catcalls from Bill, Charlie and the twins. Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, Moody, Kingsley, Tonks, Fleur, Ron and Hermione were all beaming, while Remus was wolf-whistling.
“Remus!” Tonks shouted. “I never thought you could do anything that’d resemble a wolf,” she exclaimed to everyone’s chuckles.
“As a matter of fact, I can be as wolfish as I want to go once a month, NYMPHADORA!” Lupin fired back, emphasizing her name. He is a Marauder after all!
Tonks gasped and silence fell. Tonks was glaring daggers at Remus, who was staring as hardly back at her. Everybody else was looking at each other before rolling their eyes at the same time then shouted together, “GO AND KISS ALREADY!”
To everyone's surprise, Tonks pulled out her wand and pointed it at Remus' heart. "If you don't do what they just told us to, I'm gonna hex the living daylights out of you!"
Remus obliged willingly and a collective "Awww!" was heard from their audience.
H/G:
BABY I LOVE YOU
Harry seized Ginny by the arm gently and stirred her inside the house for some - er - private - moment.
When they were halfway through the stairs, Ginny entwined their fingers together before saying, "That kiss was really wonderful Harry."
"Well, I wanted to impress that it was nine months in brewing already. I missed you so much, Gin," he smiled down at her.
"I missed you, too, and if I had any more tears to cry then, I would have."
"I'm glad you didn't, because I wouldn't want to have another recollection of a kiss that's - wet."
They heard sniggers behind them and saw that Ron and Hermione were on their way upstairs too. "I did tell you to find someone more cheerful when they kissed you," said Ron.
"You're in luck Ginny's available," Hermione added, and they both walked past them up the stairs and straight to Ron's room.
"Something I should know?" Ginny asked.
"I'll tell you later, but really, do you want to know about my first kiss?" Harry asked, amused.
Ginny crinkled her nose and said, "No, thanks. I don't wanna be scarred for life."
Harry chuckled but turned to her seriously.
"Gin, I just want you to know that you were the one who kept me sane all that time in the war. You were my hope and I clung on you to survive, I - I love you, Ginny."
"I know," she said unblinkingly. "That's why you came back, because you love me. I love you, too, Harry," she smiled and headed straight to her room, leaving the door wide open, indicating Harry to follow.
Harry hesitated for a moment before going up and closing the door behind him.
H/G:
I WANNA BE WHERE YOU ARE
"You have to rest, Harry. You need your strength back," Ginny said with her back to him as she straightened her beddings. "You sleep here. I'm sure you can't sleep well in Ron's room right now. Him and Hermione are a bit - busy."
Harry smiled, he really was tired and he felt like resting for a whole 24 hours. "Thanks, Gin. I really need it."
Ginny smiled and turned to the door but Harry called her back.
"I'd be more rested if you were with me. If it's not too much to ask," he added shyly.
"Of course, Harry. I'll stay."
She positioned herself in the bed next to him and closed her eyes; she could do with some rest herself. Harry stirred and snaked an arm to her waist.
"You don't mind, do you? It's just more comfortable this way," he asked uncertainly, wanting to be sure he hadn't crossed any boundaries.
"It's okay, it is comfortable this way," she smiled reassuringly and they both closed their eyes to finally have that sleep.
This was where he wanted to be, with Ginny by his side all the time, and he was glad she approved.
All this time he was away, she'd wished to be where he was, and now that she'd gotten that wish, she wasn't going to complain.
