This was a amazing chapter. Very sad, but still amazing nonetheless. If if gives you any indication of how much i am enjoying this story, i made my account specifically so i could review this story. In any case i am really loving this, and i also liked the allusion you made in this to bewitched.

Author's Response: Thanks so much for such a great review. 'Shattered' is one of my favorite chapters in the story. Also, thanks for taking the time to read the story, create an account, and leave this review. All are appreciated! - The Seeker

I loved the way you called Harry's homelife a "toxic environment". Miss Rae, aaahh the first person to make Harry not feel completely worthless and I'm guessing it's no accident that Sammi has red hair.
Poor guy did you have to take them BOTH away at once???

Author's Response: The Sammi/Miss Rae chapters are among my favorites. I wanted to contrast Harry's toxic home life with something more encouraging. Miss Rae actually was my kindergarten teacher, not quite as endearing as this one, but still a very positive young teacher. Sammi, of course, foreshadows both Ginny, with her red hair, and someone else, which you'll find out later in the story. As to taking BOTH of them away, I had to, otherwise we'd have a different Harry than the one I wanted to write about. Thanks for all of your reviews! -- Jim

Wow!! Cold. Even a long, slow, painful death is to good for your Dursleys.

Author's Response: hpf, Wow! You're really making my evening, well, morning now where I live. As you soon will see, some background on Vernon and Petunia will be provided. Despite that their behavior is despicable. Thanks again for your continuing reviews! - Jim/The Seeker

Well I don't know if your doing this only till hogwarts or not but I think that you might really have quite the story if you go that far with Harry's oath of never trusting a teacher or having a friend again I really think it would be interesting to see how that meshed when he goes to Hogwarts don't know if you plan on going that far but right now not to much is looking up for Harry.

Author's Response: Piltad, The story will take Harry a little ways into his first month at Hogwarts, but he has a lot of experiences to go through before he gets there. -- Jim

Okay, you got me. This bit: >>How he had become this quiet, funny, well behaved, highly intelligent young man was beyond her comprehension. By all accounts, he should have been a juvenile delinquent-in-training

Author's Response: That's why I started putting "tissue warnings" in the A/N. Melindaleo and Arnel (I'm part of M's list) suggested it. As you know from your writing, these early chapters were extremely hard to write. With Miss Rae and Sammi, I wanted to show how Harry could respond to empathetic, positive people.

Totally unrelated, this was the story's 799th review, so you should have the 800th soon. The total is actually 8 higher than what shows on the chapters, because I responded to 8 star-only "reviews", and those end up subtracting from the true total. Thanks for all your comments. They mean alot coming from you! -- Jim

Oh, poor Harry! I hate the Dursley's with a passion. Evil meanies. Gah! They're worse than Voldie! Almost. Poor Sammi, Miss Rae, and Harry especially. :( Great chapter, though! It made me cry.

Strawberry ^^

Author's Response: It's hard to imagine a worse family for Harry, isn't it? Sorry the chapter made you cry, but I appreciate your review.

Awww! You actually got me crying during this chapter and now I have to keep reading the next chapter through my tears! Amazing story!

Author's Response: Sorry that you cried. Tough time for little Harry.

And then we ask why people are not trusting.

Running to the next!

Author's Response: Hey Ginny, Cause and effect, right? Horrible when applied - especially knowingly - to children. -- Jim

Each chapter of this makes me feel depressed and miserable, but I must go on.. Its just so sad!

I can't wait until he meets Ginny...

Author's Response: Hi Seer, The early chapters are the toughtest. Hang in there, Harry will meet Ginny and the other Weasleys. Thanks for reviewing. -- Jim

Second review of this chapter, but I'm sure you don't mind.

In response to your response: yes, I did read all five chapters in a row. I had a lot of time on my hands, lets just say that. Well, that's partly the reason, the other part is that I couldn't stop reading. It wasn't a pleasant experience, but I mean that in a good way (is that possible?)

I can't see any problems that people are bringing up. as far as I can see, you've handled things very tactfully. I wouldn't have bothered reading too much into it if it wasn't done tactfully. Violence for the sake of violence goes nowhere, but this isn't that, so I can't see what's wrong.

Ignore the haters and keep up the good work, I'm waiting for the next chapter to finish the admin process right now =)

Author's Response: Hi Tim, I don't mind second reviews at all. I do know what you mean and appreciate the understanding you bring to the story. A lot of thought has gone into its construction, knowing the emotional aspects of what is being portrayed. It's reassuring to hear that you think it's being done in an appropriate fashion. The next chapter is in the queue, so it should be up soon. Thanks, Jim

Hello. I'd just like to congratulate you on your story. The subject isn't one I'm extremely comfortable with, but you do flesh out a sensitive topic in a very competent way. This leads me to wonder why you're getting some reviews telling you that you've done Harry a great injustice with the implied abuse in your story, when there are thousands of other fics out there (bad ones for the most) that treat poor Harry in more violent and graphic ways that make you wonder what goes on in the minds of these so-called writers.

Oh, and because one of the reviews has implied that you apparently had no 'conscious' while you were writing this story, I have to offer my congratulations for your fantastic achievement of writing while you were apparently in a coma. Not many people can do that, you know. ;)

Author's Response: Thanks again!

Author's Response: Hi oeyp, Thanks for your comments and wicked sense of humor. The timing of both is much appreciated! I have found that I do my best writing when I'm "unconscious." :) I, too, wonder about some of the reactions. Like you, I have read stories where young Harry is treated much worse, especially physically. Thank you for noticing there is no direct physical abuse at all in my story. I have found both in fan fiction and in the workplace that sometimes the review tells more about the reviewer than what/who is being reviewed. Thanks for such a thoughtful and funny review! -- Jim

Jim

Just so you know that THIS IS THE VERY LAST TIME THAT I WILL BE LOOKING AT THIS STORY BECAUSE I DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU ARE WRITING.

I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO READ THIS UNFLATTERY PIECE OF WORK AND I HAVE GOT BETTER THINGS TO WASTE MY TIME WITH THIS. BESIDES THERE ARE BETTER FICS OUT THERE THAT DEAL WITH HARRY+GINNY AND NOT TO MENTION HARRY+HERMIONE.

SO WITH THAT SAID I BID YOU GOODBYE AND I PRAY TO GOD THAT YOU HAVE A CONSCIOUS AND THAT YOU CHANGE THE WAY THAT YOU ARE HEADING WITH THIS WORK.

Author's Response: Micky: The Summary of Saving Harry – which has been available to readers from the start of the story – describes exactly where the story is going. Reading it would have informed you that the topics and treatments found in the story may not have been something you were interested in. I also wonder why you thought I’d be interested in the slightest that you no longer will be following the story.

This story sucks. I don't mean that it's not well written, but could you please try to be a little less depressing. Are you planning on continuing this into harry's hogwarts days? Sorry if my review seemed a little... whatever the word is, but I'm just really depressed now.

Author's Response: Monkeyboy: The Summary describes the story’s arc. It’s there for a reason. If you haven’t already done so, please read it, so you can make an informed decision going forward. Based on your comments, I would suggest you ask yourself whether this is a story you want to continue reading. I do hope your depression has lifted.

I really have one question to ask of you. How do you write this without breaking down and crying for 3 months solid? Really, to anyone reading this story, I wouldn't advise reading 5 chapters without a break, it's heartbreaking.

Anyway, enough of that mushy stuff. It goes without saying that I think your story is brilliant. Firstly, it's something I've never seen before, which means its fresh and different. Next, the way you write is so moving. I'm not always emotional, but this was a tearjerker for sure.

In short, I love it, keep going, and update quickly =)

Author's Response: Merlin, I hope you didn't read all five chapters in a row! Plus, this last chapter seems to have been the most emotional from the reviews I've received. Some very good things await Harry, but his entry into the wizarding world will be . . . interesting, I hope. Thanks for reviewing.

I registered just so I could leave a review for you. I love your story (though my heart is breaking for Harry) and find it the best Dursley related story out there. You give a very relastic impression of how Harry must have felt
growing up in an enviroment where he didn't have anyone to care for him. Though you haven't reached the Hogwarts years yet I'm sure that you will give a rater more relastic viewpoint of how Harry would have acted after growing up with the Dursleys than JK herself (though she couldn't really make him out to be too jaded given that its a children's book series). I always felt he was a bit too trusting of his fellow witches and wizards, especially Dumbledore who let him stew with the Dursley witout checking up on him.

I'm also very glad that you gave such a thourough summery of the series and that the happy ending is a given, because I honestly don't belive I could have read the story if I had no idea how it would all turn out.

I also hope that you won't just leave the story with an ending for Harry, but also include what happens to the Dursleys. I hope you'll take the time to thouroughly give them a proper and befitting end. For example ruining their image in the neighbourhood by making Dudley a criminal, killing of Vernon early in life (heart attack maybe?) and last but not least make Petunia a bitter, old widow that is forced to live with the fact and guilt of how she treated her sister's son. Maybe even show her trying to reconcile with Harry after he is married to Ginny (and she has lost Vernon to death and Dudley to prison) only to be given a taste of her own medicine. Just a couple of ideas..

Anyways, looking forward to your next chapter. Continue the good work.

Author's Response: John, I hope you know how much it means to a fan fic author to read that someone has registered just so s/he could leave a review. Thank you for doing that and for your comments. You mention several issues that will be addressed in the upcoming chapters, among them: Harry's resulting personality, trust, his relationship with Dumbledore, and an appropriate denouement for the Dursleys. I hope you like how I handle each of these elements. Thanks for sharing your ideas! -- Jim

Jim,

The primary emotion everyone appears to be feeling is, wait, just a moment, please, I have to get another tissue. That's the second one for this chapter. Can I get you to reimburse me for the cost of the extra tissues I'm using as I read your chapters? Okay, my eyes are clear now, let me see if I can get back to my review.

It goes without saying, sniff, sniff, that our collective hearts are breaking for Harry, for Sammi, and for Miss Rae. I am willing them to contact Harry one way or the other, just to save him from the desperate world he is again living in, but, alas, I fear even my strong will is insufficient. Oh dear, another big tear dropping.

I look forward to the next chapter. One suggestion, though - please give me enough time to pick up s more tissue at the market.

Your fan,
YLS

Author's Response: Hi LS, This may have been the most tissue-intensive chapter, though it may vary from reader to reader. It certainly was the toughest one for me. As I've said, these experiences mold the Harry we will see during his remaining time with the Dursleys and as he enters Hogwarts. But we know there is a family -- and a redheaded young witch - out there waiting to save him. Thanks for letting me know how the chapter affected you. -- Jim

Poor Harry! I feel so sorry for him. I remember when my first friend moved away. I was in the third grade. She promised to write but never did. I wrote a letter to her but no reply. I always wondered what ever happened to her... I eventually found other friends but it wasn't until I was 17 did I have any friends that lasted more then one year. Also what Petunia is doing just makes me sick and angry. Its hard to believe that their are people out there who would do things like that... Families members are supposed to be love and help each other, not try to make life miserable for each other. I know my parents would help me when I'm in trouble, even I'm too scared to do anything to help myself like when I had to put up with a gang of bullies in junior high. Right now I'm going threw a difficult time in my life. I lost my dream job (a well paying job as a web developer) almost a year and have been going threw hell trying to get and keep another job (you just got to love out sourcing...). If it wasn't for my parents, my extended family, and my friends being there for me, I don't know how I would have lasted this long. The closest person I know in real life to Petunia would be the youngest of my two older half-sisters but when she was at her worst was no where near as bad as Petunia. She was a teenager when I was born and I had to share a room with her when she was living at home. When she didn't want me around she would either tell me to go away or to get a job and I would go crying to either my mom or other my other half-sister who would scold her. She also accidentally poked me with a pin when changing my diaper according to my mom because she put her comfort before mine (which according to my mom is why I'm so afraid of pointed objects). I've forgiven her for being a little mean to me when I little (it s getting close to 20 years ago and she's now a responsible hard working parent who can never stop apologizing to me every time my mom brings the past up).

Enough my ramblings about my family and friends. I just hope Harry finds some happiness soon. So far the story seams to be more or less cannon in my opinion. Since you put it in the alternate universe category, I'm assuming something is going to happen that clearly didn't happen in cannon like Harry being removed from the Dursleys (and I hope soon because I don't know how you can get the Dursleys to make Harry's life worse without getting more people suspicious).

Author's Response: I went through six changes of school during my first three years (K-2), so leaving friends was an early experience for me. That was due to my family moving, not my behavior, btw. :) Petunia and Vernon were perhaps the worst people Harry could have been left with, never feeling like parents toward him. You're right, because of their treatment, a different Harry will emerge, which we'll start seeing in the next chapter and when he gets to Hogwarts. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us.
