Good chapter. It seems the Australiaon wizarding newspaper is even worse than Britain's. It will cause a lot of confusion in the press seeing Harry with Ginny and Hermione with Ron that's for sure!

Harry can never get away from it all can he...
I'm thinking your cameo role is either Susan or Jonathon...I'm going to go for Jonathon.

I love the talk between Harry & Arthur, was really well written.
A different sort of chapter for the Australian part of it, but nice anyway.
So which one of the Aussie witches did you base on you, I promise I haven't checked to see what you said in the next review so, as you've already said you're NOT Ashley (You're sure about that LOL) So of the two I'd say you were Naomi!
Author's Response: Nope, I'm not Naomi - she's based on an old flatmate though!

Oh, Kezza, your Australian is showing, and in the best possible way! Though, like Harry, I tended to skim over Hermione's somewhat long-winded explanations of the local customs and the locale.
BUT what was really awesome was the scene that went before this, with Harry getting upset about Ron's insensitivity... I thought his initial reaction was a wee bit over-the-top, but reminded myself of "Order of the Phoenix" and moved along quite blissfully, especially when the things that followed were so beautiful, in particular, Harry reassuring Ginny that the diary was not her fault. No matter how many fics where I read about Harry and Ginny talking about/dealing with that particular series of events, it's never enough. I just love that scenario and it was executed brilliantly.
Also, Ginny and Harry walking along with her hand in his back pocket? One of my absolute favorite images of all time. It gave me the warm fuzzies.
On to the next!
Author's Response: Yay! Warm fuzzies! And that piece of Harry there with the OTT reaction - went through a lot of work to get it only that emo - originally he was locking himself in the bedroom and not letting anyone in! ROFLOL Now THAT would have been OTT! As for Australia - I had a great time creating wizarding Australia and creating some stories and things in that setting. A lot of people asked ... "But why?" I say - Why not? ;)

LOL...has no one sussed out Bert and Ernie seem to be driving an Aussie version of the Knight Bus?
Thanks for the translation. I was in Austraial only once with my family quite a few years ago.
Do they still have the homes with the painted out-houses? I think they were listed as Historic.
The one thing I'll never forget is a sign (Ithink it was somewhere around Alice Springs) that said: 'If you can't read this sign, the road is flooded.' lol, if you couldn't read the sign, and you didn't live round there, how would you know?
The thing I liked LEAST were the itsy-bitsy spiders (thought that would go well with Bert and Ernie) that got into our luggage. We had to vacate our home when we got back so it could be tented to kill the little blighters!
I remember landing in Australia, and being told to sit quietly (this was on the tarmac)...don't speak or look at the people boarding the plane. WE were sprayed with disinfectant, and something to kill bugs. Gave me the hint that in lifes food chain Spiders were head and shoulders over people, and it gave them a bit of a chuckle to know we were taking a little parting gift home from Australia.
The rest of the people were great! Every year I send for a new Dryzabone.
Darian
Author's Response: Painted out houses? Dunno - we have heritage listed ones. Anything over 100 years old is heritage listed - which to the English is quite funny - well it is to my English relatives that come lol. The Ancientcy (new word, I made it up, deal with it) exists in the landscape, not the buildings.
I can garuntee that is not the daftest sign in this wide brown land. Can't think any off the top of my head though...
I have always found it of massive hilarity that the driest continent on earth has the world's best rain gear! lol
Author exits shuddering over itsy bitsy spiders. Huntsmans are no picnic either! P.S. We don't meet Bert and Ernie and their trusty Roobus until Chapter 19 - but hopefully there are some surprises ;)

Interesting chapter! I actually learned quite a bit about Australia. The giggly girls are exactly how I imagined Harry's followers. I am a little surprised that Ginny isn't slightly more possessive.
Please update soon!
Author's Response: I never saw Ginny as possessive in the face of facelss giggly girls. Now people she knows and/or feels threatened by...maybe...
Hang onto your hats for more Aussie learnings :D And the next chapter will be a few more days while I work out the kinks and finer points.

Australians all let us rejoice for we are young and freeeeeeeeeee!
Just a note to those not from Australia - we don't all talk like that!! Although admittedly I do throw in the slang now and then :D
Man you have included everything in this chappie - Olympics, food, gallahs, Indigenous art, drought, crappy winter weather in August - all that's missing is Howard, eskies, Neighbours, AFL, drunks and The Castle! Still reckon Sydney sucks though!
Too bad they're in Australia during August and not September - they're missing out on footy finals fever! GO CATS!
Great H/G moments here; finally she is opening up about last year! All we need now is for them to elope! (pleeeeease??)
Author's Response: The slang is pervasive. It creeps up on you...before you know it you are slinging around drongo and sheila with the best of them.
Bite your tongue! Howard will NOT besmirch this fic in such a fashion. I can't believe he was the PM even back then...wasn't he? It's been so long since anyone else held that possie (there you are some nice Oz slang thrown in casually without so much as a by your leave). There will also be no eloping! (yet... ;) )
Yes, it is a shame it isn't... September...do we remember who won the Grand Final in 1998??????????????? (Remember that I live in Adelaide...) "We're the pride of South Australia..." Still, this Crows fan hopes Port wallops you lot tomorrow. Go Cats indeed...
Apologies to the international fanfic readers, we now return you to your regular programming and not the AFL footy final fever...

Author's Response: Thanks! Now whatever makes you think Austrlaia will be an adventure...? ;)
Author's Response: Oh dear...what a damning indicment on our education system when one canot type the name of one's own country....seriously folks, it was a mere type, I know it's spelt Oztraya ;)

wow great job with Jonathon...you did the accent and personality very well!
Author's Response: He's based loosely on a Maccas manager I once worked with. Short, blonde, mischeivious and a little bit conspiratorial!

Wonderfull. Especially the chance to learn about Australia. I'm a Yank, and one thing I like about Fan Fiction is the viewpoints of other Nationalities.
I could be wrong on this, but Chick is used here in the states, do the Brits use it? I thought their equivalent term was bird. Keep up the good work. PS my wife's a school teacher (K-3).
Author's Response: Good question...my British brother uses both chick and bird - so do most Australians. But then he has been here a while now. Bird might be more appropriate - maybe an Englishman can fill us in :D . Than ks for reviewing, glad you are enjoying it.

Nice chapter with a very interesting Aussie touch! Haha apt how they arrive on George Street and George asks where they were. It's so nice reading this chapter because, living in Sydney, I can imagine all the places Hermione was describing. You do realise I'm going go looking for the Dripping Bucket now? Haha.
Author's Response: Let me know if you find it. I never found it, but like I said, The Rocks must be pretty magical :D .
