Greatly enjoyed reading this story. Harry and Ginny are rather young to be so firmly together, but it works for them. The reaction of Petunia to the news was quite amusing.

Love the story and looking forward to the sequel. Fantastic job with the whole plot and pacing it so appropriately. It must have taken tremendous planning to incorporate everything together so the passing of time isn't ignored and you got all the appropriate details in there for the plot. Your attention to detail is really apparent in this story, where things that happened 10 chapters ago with little consequence impact the plot.
You've included a lot of details that are brilliant and fit well into the story. I had a heartfelt attachment to Casey, even though she wasn't a permanent fixture in the story. Merlin the Phoenix is a great addition, and I keep chuckling about him having the hots for McGonagall. Your attention to the details in battle scenes beyond merely Harry's POV is admirable. Most stories have tunnel vision and you get a series of "Harry dodges spell. Harry casts spell. Harry cries in pain. Harry gets up." You've done a great job of spreading the point-of-view to multiple characters (Your Battle of Little Hangleton specifically stands out), bringing emotion to the common man and woman fighting, and giving the reader glimpses of the small triumps and tragedies that are typically passed over by authors. Good work.
I am really enjoying the story so far and expect I will continue to enjoy it when I read the next story. Thanks for writing!
Author's Response: Thanks so much!! What a lovely review! Honestly, I knew how I was going to start, that Casey would be part of the story and what would happen to her, that the Refiner's Fire would happen to Harry, that he and Ginny would get together and Merlin would be in the story, plus I knew how things would end - and a few bits in between - but in a lot of ways, the story wrote itself. I didn't write a road map of what would happen, but I did write a narrative of what DID happen so I could keep track throughout the story. The characters took hold of the story and I just wrote down what they did (sort of, LOL!). It was such fun to write, and really hard to hold together sometimes as story lines would try to take over and I'd have to wrestle them into submission. :) I'm glad you enjoyed it so much! Thanks for the wonderful review!

That was a great all action story. One of the best I have read. If your readers know the Messiah by G. F. Handel, the second part of "who may abide the day of his coming" is "for he is like a refiner's fire" and it fits this story to a"T"! Well done.
Author's Response: Although I've sung "Messiah" many times, I actually took the idea from scripture (Malachi 3:2-3), as well as from my experience as an artist who also makes jewelry. When you refine gold, you melt it down and scrape the impurities off the surface (at least when you use the old-fashioned method) to make it as pure and perfect as possible. That's what the Refiner's Fire illness did to Harry. Most people don't have enough purity in their hearts to withstand that wizarding ailment, which is why only Merlin, Dumbledore and Harry have survived it in all of Wizarding history (well, MY wizarding history anyway, since I made all this up except for the scripture and the facts about refining!) I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot!

Hi again;
I haven't been reviewing because I needed the time to read. Its after 3 now.
I enjoyed reading nearly all of this story. You did a great job. I am looking forward to the continuation. I really liked how you kept the characters as they were written and then having them grow into playing larger and more important parts. You obviously spent a lot of time thinking about how those characters would evolve and what particular circumstances would lead to the kind of growth you had envisioned when you thought about the plot.
Kudos!
Author's Response: Thanks very much! Yes, I spent a lot of time considering how the characters would mature, and it was fun taking them there. I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
In addition to "The Time of Destiny," I have several ficlets that fit into the time gap between Destiny and its epilogues, as well as a third novel, which ocmpletes the Refiners Fire saga, "Now and Forever." The last chapter of N&F will be uploaded this week.
You can also now read my original work - I have a novel that's available on Amazon.com and B&N.com, "Star Sons - Dawn of the two" - just go to one of the sites and search for "Lynda Sappington" (that's me) and you'll find it. The second novel in the Star Sons saga will be published hopefully in early 2009.
Thanks for writing!

I admitted to pass this message on to you via PM, but apparently it did not make it. I read this story about a month ago and I really enjoyed it.
I am a Harry/Ginny shipper all the way, always have been, always will be, and I can't stand seeing them paired up with anyone else. That being said, I have to admit you actually made my heart give into unfaithfulness in Ginny's regard. I absolutely loved Casey and the whole Asher family. I think that she was a perfect match for Harry. I have to admit, for the first time I read a story where I felt that the Ginny of that story did not deserve to be with Harry. It just seemed to me that Ginny was awfully horrible to Casey before she died, and after her death Ginny kind of just weaseled her way into Harry's life. I normally would never turn on Ginny, and agast, I think I will have to grovel at her feet in every other story I read, but in this one Casey was the top dog for me.
That being said, I wonder if you ever considered writing a few chapters of an AU version of this where Casey and the Ashers were not killed. If you ever did that (especially for me, LOL!) I would love to read it. Casey will go down in history as the only other girl that in my book is a perfect match for Harry. And while Casey doesn't hold a candle to Ginny in general (Aahh, Ginny is my first love--love that fiery red hair and spirit), she more than blows her away in this story. I wish you the best of luck in your future endeveors as a fanfiction writer and a truly original novelist!

Author's Response: Thank you for the wonderful review! Yes, lots of people fell in love with Casey and her family, so many that I actually used Casey's name and personality for a character in my original novels - so she lives on, and in books with my own name on them, nobody elses! No, I won't do an AU featuring Casey and her family - sorry. Nice idea, but I'm very involved in my original novels now and don't want to "revisit" things I've already finished.
My orignal novel, "Star Sons - Dawn of the Two" is on Amazon (although they've had a glitch with the distributor's computer - it's in the process of being fixed as I write this). You can read sample pages there, or the whole first chapter at www.whimsyhill.com. To find it on Amazon, do a search on "Lynda Sappington" (that's me).
Thanks for writing!

This was a GREAT story; I must say I liked it more than the Harry Potter books by JKR. You have a great way of telling the story and I love how you describe the battles. JKR’s version really needed you to describe some of the battles for her. Thanks for the best fanfiction I have read so far. 10/10 easily… I’m moving to Part II as soon as I can.
Author's Response: Wow, thanks a LOT! You're very kind! JKR needed me to write her battles, eh? COOL! :) HIgh praise indeed!
Hope you enjoy the rest of my stories!
