Reviews For Saving Harry

Reviewer: omega13a Signed Date: 2013.01.14 - 08:31PM Title: Spells

a good chapter though but there is one astronomy related mistake. This chapter takes place in late August. Sirius would still be below the horizon at night for the UK that time of the year. I don't know when it would be above the horizon at night for the UK but I know in my area (the San Francisco Bay Area) it would be sometime in November so I imagine it would be for the UK shortly after it is for my area.

Author's Response: Omega13a, thank you for taking the time to let me know about the chapter's astonomical error. I never considered that Sirius wouldn't be visible at all times of the year. Since the inclusion of Sirius was more for emotional reasons than astronomical, I hope you'll forgive me for keeping it in. Hope you enjoy the rest of the story. - The Seeker

I think flying, to Ginny, means leaving the restrictions her family places on her on the ground
for Harry it represents freedom from all he's endured and brings him that much closer with the life he knew before, because he remembers fkying as a small boy with hhis Mum and Dad - it connects him back to them in a way nothing else could, well before the albums and memories came to him. I know you already said some of that in a different.

Author's Response: I think we're saying flying is an integral part of who they are.

I love the way the twins call him Ickle Harrikins and consider him thier 'newst Bro' - the Weasleys are amazing people. It was good to see DD so vex over his descions re Harry.

He wasn’t handsome or powerful or brilliant, but in Harry’s eyes Mr Weasley was perfect, exactly what a father should be.
That sentance put a lump in my throat, because it's so true.

AAAWWWW isn't that cute ??? Harry is the first person Ginny flies with, thier young love is so sweet and so inoccent....

Author's Response: Hi Bev, I wanted to show the value of family and contrast a nurturing one to the Dursleys. The Weasleys are perfect for that. Arthur, along with Ginny of course, was the perfect antidote for Harry's time with the Dursleys, because Arthur really understands Harry's needs and how best to approach him. I had a hard time leaving the Burrow and ended up writing 2-3 chapters beyond what I had planned.

Flying, to me, symbolizes all that Harry is striving for, with its freedom, lack of restrictions, and providing a chance to show his talents and creativity. Same qualities apply to Ginny, though to a much lesser degree, because she has a wonderful family. Flying also gives me a nice way to show how in sync the two magical children are with each other.

Bev, I think I mentioned how much fun I've had going through the story again via your comments, but if so, it's worth mentioning again. Thanks! -- Jim

Really trying to figure out what exactly is going on with Harry and Ginny like I said sounded like a soul bond but I really don't think you would go that route now I am not so sure since you have the two of them so close. I really like how well you have merged them together and that they don't even notice it barely ever. I am kinda worried about school since Harry won't have his saftey net (GInny) I do like how you had Dumbledore comparing Harry and Voldy I think the one thing that makes this different is Ginny if Harry wouldn't of been moved to the Wreasleys I don't see any way for you not to make him dark,

Author's Response: Not sure which direction you're reading the reviews, so I'll repeat myself. What H and G have is not a soul bond. I believe they were made for each other, so even at this stage, we see their emotional connection and comfort with each other. As you point out, it is completely natural, so they don't think about the hand holding, for instance. School is a looming problem, with their separation. Excellent point about G and her family keeping H firmly on the Light Side, something DD doesn't realize. -- Jim

i love how these chapters are getting longer, i love fics with a large word count, means i can get stuck in! i read at some pace, my husband doesn't quite understand it! i only started getting into harry potter within the last 4 years, got the first four books and got through Philospher's stone in less than 2 hours, so i read quick! the hp books are something i can read over and over and not get bored! and i found this site through myginevra and his fan fic was the first i had read and it was really good.
i love your uptake on this, and you seem to capture harry very well, and what he has been subjected to.
i think its funny how something harry does that is so irrelevant can bring back such a young memory, cos i find that happens to us aswell, a smell or an action makes you remember something, that we think we are too small to remember or that we imagine it. he is bound to get these memories, and i do hope he gets to see pictures of his parents as well, so that the faces are no longer blank to him!

i would love to see his relationship with ron to develop more, as his best friend.

question - do you plan on writing a sequal to saving harry? or writing anythin else? i have noticed you have more stories, which i am going to have a nosy at when i have finished this, but just wondered if you planned on writing any more?

lets hope harry is ready for school, cos the time is getting near!

Author's Response: Hi Charlz, The early chapters were keep shorter due to the content. I also found as I got further into the story the characters had more to say and there were more themes to explore, so the chapters expanded. You may have noticed the last ch is almost 27,000 words long!

Very small world - Peter/MyGinevra is a good friend, and I loved The Hog's Head.

I had just the type of memory recall recently that you were describing, having to do with the visit of an aunt, when I was 3 or 4 years old. When telling my sister about the memory (she wasn't born yet), I recalled a second memory from the same visit. Memory triggers are very interesting.

Ron and Harry's relationship will develop in several directions, as you will soon see at your rate of progress through the story.

At this point, I have several non fan fiction projects that I need to work on. They were shelved while I wrote SH. So, at this time, there are no plans for a sequel or any other HP fic. You never know what may happen after those other projects are completed. Lots of people have asked, so it's not a nosy question at all. :-)

Thanks for this great review! -- Jim

Does it take me back? When i was 11, it was 1961 (yes, I AM older than dirt!!)! I didn't hold hands with a boy until a few years later, and spin the bottle? MUCH later!! I grew up in Virginia in a conservative family. I had boys as close friends, yup, but they were "adopted" as "brothers" and no way would we hold hands with each other! We were more likely to climb trees and build tree forts together. Actually, my best buddy when I was 11 was my next door neighbor Mike, who was my age - we did build a wonderful tree fort that summer, and we also put on a carnival with my poor collie doing his ONE trick (shaking hands) and my ancient horse doing pony rides! I think we made five bucks off of our carnival - that was good money back then, LOL!

Abraxan the ancient . . .

Author's Response: Ah, I think we've illustrated the differences between growing up in Virginia and Southern California! Lots of memories to talk about offline. -- Jim

They're very chummy for being 10 and 11 years old - I've thought that for several chapters now, but they really are getting close and I wouldn't have been surprised if Harry'd tried to steal a kiss while they were studying the stars. They're a wee bit young for all that, but I know they have a close friendship. I just don't know any 11 year old boys who are that interested in girls except as fun people to tease, LOL! Still, a sweet chapter. I'm glad to see Harry progressing so much in his social skills.

Abraxan

Author's Response: They're best friends! Both seem to understand the other better than anyone else. I based their closeness on what my friends and I were doing at that age - parties, spin the bottle, dating. I grew up in Southern California, so maybe that had something to do with it. With H and G, it is still pure innocence. Does it take you back? -- Jim

Awwww!!! Very cute and fluffy ending, I loved it of course. I really liked this chapter and I will sadly admit that I am slowly, very slowly, starting to forgive Albus. Of course, I know Harry has still yet to do so even if he did thank the Headmaster for the cloak he was simply being respectful. Of course the growing relationships with everyone always makes me happy and I can't wait to continue reading. I know that the next chapter is the last one at the Burrow and that is sadening but I think I'll be able to get over it...maybe. ^^ Anyways another excellent chapter and I would continue to sit here and praise you but the next chapter is screaming my name. Until next time.

~Kat

Author's Response: Kat, The Harry/Albus relationship is one that will take a long time to develop, since DD has accrued a large negative with Harrry. Thankfully, Harry has the Weasleys and McGonagall to help him. Hope you enjoy the next chapter! -- Jim

I seem to have missed a lot due to odd schedules. Okay, I don't think I've ever seen you make a mistake before, but this one had me on the floor. "DD Massaged the bride of his nose"???? Who might that be, pray tell? Blushing yet?

The rest of the chapter, as always was amazing. Haryy is coming into his powers, has made friends with the "new family" and while he may not exatly trust DD, nor would I at this point, at least both are trying a bit more.

Darian

Author's Response: Darian, Thanks for catching the typo! I'll go and correct that once I send this off. Everything is changing in Harry's life, as you point out: learning about his magical powers, having people who care for him, and trying to figure out Dumbledore. Pretty crowded schedule for an eleven-year old! Thanks for reviewing. Hope all is well with you. -- Jim

I need to get a tissue before I can review! Awww, your chapters should have an Aw rating, I think this one exceeds the standard Aw. Finally they go flying together! Love it! And he's already skilled with his favorite dueling spell...aw, our wonderful boy who doesn't want to hurt a fly. I can't wait to read the next one, I bet it has what they're planning on giving Harry...I'll just read it now, it's kind of nice to be behind!

Author's Response: LOL - readers have asked for angst, tears, and Bat Bogey warnings. I guess I need to add an "Aw" rating next! :-) As you now know I love to write their flying scenes. I'll have to see if you guessed correctly about what they gave Harry. Thanks, Jim

Jim,

The scene between Harry and Mr. Weasley is so wonderful, I had to reread it several times. Well done, Jim! I also love the way you ended this chapter, as "one hand grasped the other, though neither child showed any signs of being aware of the action." So subtle and rewarding.

Onto the next chapter.

Seeker Sis

Author's Response: For some reason I really enjoy writing Mr Weasley and Harry talking. Arthur seems like the perfect Dursley antidote for Harry. As for the hand holding, can I say I loved it, too? It just seemed so natural and an innocent extension of the comfort they feel with each other. -- Jim/YBB

Excellent as always.
Harry gets great examples of how family life should/could be. He doesn't stutter anymore around them anymore and the touching goes better day by day.

Dumbledore is starting to see his mistakes with Harry and is pondering over how to fix it. His self doubt is pivotal, I think, because he finaly starts showing insight that Harry is a person, not a weapon and his own mistakes regarding Harry are evident to that.

Arthur's talk with Harry about the four houses showed insight from Harry and Arthur's remark about befriending people from other houses was a nice touch, one that will shine trough evidently with meeting Hermione, Neville and Draco.

Use a the famous centaur-line "Mars is bright tonight", do you mean war is coming or hard times or just using the phrase at random :) "Sirius is known as the dog star"

Thanx for a great chapter, up to the next one. Can bearly wait. Thanx C

Author's Response: Hi Collinda, Harry definitely is seeing the better side of family life through the Weasleys, and it has opened his world up. Dumbledore and Harry are trying, but they are still coming to their relationship from entirely different directions. It will continue to evolve.

I"ve always found the sorting of incoming students to be fascinating, so that topic will be explored as the story progresses.

lol - I couldn't resist the Sirius line. And the "Mars is bright" line serves a oouple purposes. One is to have fun with one of the better known lines in canon; the other, well, you'll just have to wait and see.

The next chapter will be submitted today. Thanks for your insightful review. -- Jim

awwww, so cute

I thought for a second you were going to plough Harry, that wouldn't have been good! lol

Good chapter, really enjoyed the cuteness of it, especially at the end.

Last chapter in the burrow next, can't wait for Hogwarts, really look forward to the updates.

Author's Response: Hey, Tim, I wouldn't plough Harry or Ginny or Harry and Ginny, for that matter. Yeah, I'm working on that last Burrow chapter now. Tons of stuff happening. Thanks for reviewing! -- Jim

Mr. Seeker,

Nicely done, as always. I suspect the Dumbledore of canon had many similar conversations with himself as Harry's saga unfolded. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Cheers.

Author's Response: Hi George, As soon as I saw the screen name, I hoped that was you! I think that Harry was a unique experience for Albus. I'm just trying to tweak it bit here. Thanks for signing up and leaving your comments. -- Jim
