Reviews For Saving Harry

Reviewer: FlaGinnyGirl Signed Date: 2010.04.15 - 11:54PM Title: Consequences

The first part of this chapter where Harry thought he might be sebt to St. Burtus' reminded me of when Tom Riddle thought DD was a Dr. there to check him out...
The description of Harry's anger in his Aunt's living room was wonderful - we get a glimpse of just how powerful a wizard Harry is, even at this young age, when even DD has to cast a sheild charm.

How AWFUL !!! I think it's interesting that you've made HArry haye and mistrust DD - sad.

Author's Response: Harry and Tom have a number of parallels in their lives, and St. Brutus for Harry certainly reflects Tom's feelings for the orphanage. You wonder why one of the Slytherin families didn't offer him a place to go during holidays and the summer. Harry's power is purely emotion-based. With James Potter and Lily Evans Potter as his parents, I found it hard to believe that Harry wouldn't be smart, creative and powerful. DD's comments brought out Harry's emotions, hence the explosion. Harry pretty much distrusts all adults, especially when he feels the adult has a hidden agenda, as DD always does. Added to that, he sees the Headmaster as the decision maker that has affected his life so negatively, especially living at the Dursleys'.

I do like it don't quite know what to think about with this whole moving him in with the Weasleys though. It is kinda sad to say but I don't see Dumbledore actually ever moving him he thought he was to right but this is au and do like the idea so will see where it takes me. I do really oddly enough like how you have Harry interacting with Dumbledore. I do think that cannon should of been the same way till Dumbledore gave Harry a reason to trust him since none of his actions showed Harry whould of. I am almost positve that you will get Harry to feel differently about Dumbledore since your story doesn't give off that vibe but you have created the most like Tom Harry I have read. Would of been interesting to see how you would of gone down that path if you would of.

Author's Response: Dumbledore saw the treatment Harry had received at the Dursleys and his magical response to it, which did not happen in canon. So, DD knew he had to remove Harry from that environment. What better family to put him with than the Weasleys? At this point Harry sees DD at the center of everything that is wrong with his life, hence the distrust. Thanks for your comments.

oh dear, he really doesn't like dumbledore, i do hope he gets over this

Author's Response: Well the chapter title is Consequences, and Dumbledore is receiving his, based on Harry's interpretation of what DD's decisions did to his life. Thanks, Jim

Oh, no. Harry's going to break soon if he continues to feel this way! i think your version is much more the way it would've been in reality than the way it was originally written, When I saw the first film and later read the books, I was surprised Dumbledore didn't go to pick Harry up himself, and even more surprised that he hadn't kept tabs on him all those years. Dumbledore didn't seem like that irresponsible a person, but staying away from that child was the height of irresponsibility. This is a very powerful chapter. Well done!

Abraxan, who isn't getting any work done, but it still enjoying the story!

Author's Response: How interesting! Like you, I saw the first film, then started reading the books. My younger daughter had the three that were already published.

Consequences of one's actions is a recurring theme in the story. Here Albus sees what his actions have brought. For a person who was so important to the Light Side, Albus' treatment of Harry during that decade he was at the Dursleys' could be charitably called cavalier. He had no idea what really was going on in that house. Sorry about keeping you away from your writing. -- Jim

A CLIFF HANGER??? I am SOOO glad that the next chapter is already posted or I'd be sitting here, rocking back and forth, waiting for it. AMAZING story, depressing plot but I love it still.

~Kat

Author's Response: I do use an occasional cliff hanger. You know now, so I can tell you that Harry was simply ovewhelmed. Life will start getting better for Harry now.

Adults always think they know better, and usually do, but they should always, at least, inform kids of things, especially when they affect them so much.

Running to the next!

Author's Response: As you point out, communication is crucial. It will continue to be explored as the story progresses. Thanks for reviewing. -- Jim

Sorry I haven't kept up with your story. After reading this chapter, I'm sorrier than you might imagine. A wonderful chapter and one that has me excited to read the next. :) Chris

Author's Response: Chris, You really have a way with words! I do know the feeling about not keeping up with other stories. This one has been hogging all my fan fic time, so let me apologize to you for not keeping up with your newest. Thank you for taking the time to read and leave your review. I feel really really sorry for Harry. He's in no shape to attend school yet. I hope the Weasleys really help him quick!

Author's Response: You're right. Harry has been overwhelmed, but the Weasleys have a month to work their magic on him. Thanks for reviewing!

Merlin, what have they done to this poor child indeed.

First things first, vast vast vast vast vast improvement over the last chapter in my eyes. I loved it.

It seems you're getting back into the emotion of it again, which is good. Harry's perspective is spot on for what you have done, I could well imagine myself thinking the exact same things if I were in his predicament.

An excellent chapter and I'm looking forward to the next.

Author's Response: Hi Tim, I'm glad we're back on the same page, as it were. We'll be examining the issues raised in this chapter for a bit now, so they may be seen as emotional. I still owe you a response to your last message -- it's been one of those days! -- Jim

Jim, I had to come back and let you know that this story is haunting me. I honestly can't get it out of my head. You already know how personally I took the preschool part, but I'm past that now. Your descriptions of Harry as an abused child are so realistic and disturbing that I can't shake them. This is outstanding writing. I really look forward to your postings. I have to have Harry getting better so I can sleep.

Author's Response: Hi DebbieO, Please see the PM I've written to you. Best, Jim

Great chapter and very emotional as well. Looking forward to the next chapter. Well done.

Author's Response: We are now seeing the consequences (pun intended) of the actions that have most affected Harry, and that will continue into the upcoming chapters.

I would say Dumbledore's actions in this chapter show of a person who's plan went horribly wrong and is trying his best to clean up the mess with out having create a bigger mess. It is also showing that Dumbledore is making an effort to make up to Harry. It would be suicide for Dumbledore to send Harry back to the Dursleys the next summer with Molly Weasley knowing how Harry was treated there (I can imagine the howler she would send him... *thoughts of the following howler arriving during the end of the year feast* ALBUS PERCIVAL WOLFRIC BRIAN DUMBLEDORE! WHAT THE @#$% ARE YOU THINKING SENDING POOR HARRY BACK TO THOSE AWFUL MUGGLES AFTER WHAT THEY DID TO HIM!!!??? HE'LL BE DEAD BY NEXT SEPTEMBER! PUT ONE OF HARRY'S TOES IN THE DIRECTION OF THE DURSLEYS AND I SEE TO IT YOU ARE OUT OF A JOB!!! (I know it may not sound like Molly but you get the point)). Also if he wants Harry to trust him, removing Harry from the Dursleys won't cut it. Its a good start but it will take more then that. Belated birthday present(s) would help (assuming this chapter takes place on Harry's birthday). Also, I hope Dumbledore informs Snape of Harry's treatment and of Harry's explosive little problem not only for Snape's safety but for the safety of those who are nearby when Snape is around Harry (that's assuming Dumbledore lets Harry go to Hogwarts in his present condition).

Author's Response: Omega, I love Molly's howler! I could see her saying something along those lines. Can you imagine the reaction if the howler arrived during one of the meals in the Great Hall? What a great scene that would be! DD is now quite aware of the results of his decisions, and he does have to build a relationship with Harry. Mr Potter in Snape's class could be very interesting, especially if the Potions Master does the same things JKR showed in her story. Thanks for the review and the great image of Molly's howler! -- Jim

Well, that's how it should have happened it Canon, Dumbledore should have been the one to go to the Dursley's and deliver Harry's Hogwarts letter. This was such a good chapter and shows the years of experience Harry has had at hiding his emotions and his intelligence. I can't wait for the next chapter, I will predict that Harry is taken to either St. Mungo's or Hogwarts to be taken care of, and the Weasley's will meet him there. I may be completely off, but I know that no matter how long it takes, the Weasley's, esp. Ginny, will help him. Keep up the wonderful work!

-Lauren

Author's Response: Thanks, Lauren! You're right, Harry has learned how to survive in an unsympathetic environment. As we leave the Dursleys (and no, I won't tell you where we're going next), he will begin to learn various ways of expressing himself. Ginny will play a small part in that. : ) -- Jim

Well, Jim, this is the chapter I thought should have been in PS/SS instead of the one Rowling wrote. If Harry is as psychologically impared as you make him out to be, instead of finding a savior in either Dumbledore, McGonagall or Hagrid, Harry is right to think of these people as his goalers instead of his saviors. I don't blame him one iota for curling up in his cupboard and wishing them away or trying to blow up the Dursley's house because of his locked-away emotions. The one thing I was surprised at was that neither Arthur nor Molly came to the Dursleys with Dumbledore. I should have thought that Molly would have jumped at the chance to come meet the boy she and Arthur had pledged to take in and, knowing Molly and her love for children, she would have talked-up her family in such a way that Harry would have wanted to come with them instead of hiding as he did. However, this is your story and I'm looking forward to the next chapters. They will be read and reviewed as soon as they come out.

I hope you take what I'm going to say next as constructive, polite criticism and not as an afront to your writing. The content, themes and action are well put together in this chapter, Harry's thought process adds quite a bit of interesting information too, but at times I was very confused as to who was speaking, from whose point of view parts of the story were being told. I'm referring to the Harry/Dumbledore and Harry/McGonagall segments where the two are talking together. The PoV jumps back and forth between the two characters and it's hard to really know in whose head we're living! I read the chapter twice before making this comment and both times I had to stop and read parts over again.

I hope you will be updating this story very soon. ~Arnel~

Author's Response: Hi Arnel, Your literate comments are always appreciated. Harry did quickly understand who was behind the decisions that have ruled his life, so his feelings about Albus, and McGonagall to a much lesser degree, are blazing. Regarding Arthur and Molly accompanying DD to the Dursleys, I don't think Albus would want to introduce too many wizards into number four Privet Drive. It would have been even more chaotic. DD brought Minerva only because he already knew Harry would not listen to him. Rest assured that Molly's maternal instincts will be overflowing when she finally does see Harry again. The question then becomes, how will Harry react to that? Stay tuned! -- Jim
