Bun-Bun's adorable! Wish I have one of my own.
Ron's reaction to finding out about their bond was just so Ron. It's very nice that he's looking out for them, unlike Percy.
The hair braiding was a great way of demonstrating that knowing and being able to do something are different especially in their case.
Their emotions too were highlighted. How it doubled, lessened or completely different from the other.

Bun-Bun??!?!?!?! lol... props for one of the most original spells I've seen, funniest too!!!

Author's Response: Have you heard of Bun-bun before? Only a few people recognized the reference, but they're the ones who really got the joke. Thanks!

Although Ginny and Harry were seriously upset about receiving the charmed pajamas, I think their willingness to use the pajamas (without thinking about removing the charms) really showed how much they respect Molly's wishes. I'm pretty sure they don't understand the reasons for all of the charms, and if they were a few years older, they probably would have had a better understanding of where Molly was coming from.

When Ron found out about his sister's connection with Harry, I expected him to be more jealous. Instead, it seemed as if he thought it was just a mind-reading thing. I don't think things like permanency or physical ramifications even crossed his mind. If Ron was told 2-3 years later, I imagine he would be wishing he shared a similar connection with his female friend - at least so he could read her mind.

That got me thinking about whether the bond was permanent or not. I had just assumed that it would be. However, people can live with many types of physical disabilities. Harry and Ginny are one person...if they were to lose that connection...it could be similar to suffering a permanent physical disability. That would probably be traumatizing, but I think survivable. They are able to separate their physical senses on purpose. However, their mental connection makes me believe that it would probably not be possible for them to separate.

I'm not sure why the broom lesson begins with them shouting "Up", nor had I thought about it until Ginny brought it up. Clearly the ones who struggled riding brooms also struggled to get their brooms to rise. It could be just how Hooch determines who needs extra help. I think the more interesting question is why does struggling on a broom correlate to struggling to get it to rise on command.

Brilliant job with the broom race. It was really fun to read. The stories you add about Ginny's childhood are perfect. She's mischievous, but at the same time a picture of innocence. It really captures how I had imagined her childhood to be.

Luckily, there is no color that matches Sectum. Hm...I wonder if it would take more than that though. Harry was concentrating awfully hard on the towel becoming brown. On the other hand, the spell returned a pink rabbit - so perhaps Harry's concentration had no effect.

What Quidditch position did McGonagall play? (My guess is chaser.)

Author's Response: No, I don't think Harry and Ginny truly understand the reasons for the charms, but they have enough of an idea to work with. For them, anyway.
Ron's age is a big factor. In fact, each brother will respond differently, and age is a big factor in each of those reactions.
I agree that shouting 'up!' is as much a teaching tool as anything else. I've always wondered, though, so I couldn't resist that little byplay.
Harry was concentrating pretty well, yes, but not perfectly. That's something he (they) have yet to really learn. It ties in to lots of things, actually.
McGonagall was indeed a Chaser. She was a solid player but not spectacular. Her love for the game is all-encompassing, though, so she's just as happy to watch Quidditch as to play.
Thanks for reading and leaving such a thoughtful review. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on future chapters.

Cool. You made me feel young, comparing me to Bill and Charlie. I was born in '68, right between them. This is a terrific read. I'm glad you didn't turn Ron into a jerk...that seems to be a common fanfic theme that is way out of canon. Percy, yes...Ron, no. I do agree that there are similarities there that I hadn't noticed before Ginny communicated it to Harry here. Very nice. Maybe I'll read more tomorrow.

Author's Response: Ron has his quirks, but I don't think she's a jerk in general. I'm glad you liked the similarities to Percy... that's something I thought was pretty subtle in canon. Thanks!

enchantment on the pajamas ways to break the charms:
- break the buttons and replace them
- cut off the the stripe of cloth where the buttons are sewn on
- sielence charm or let the charm activate in some far corner and break itself
- let a professional do it and pay (use the owl to send it)
...
One way or another the charms would be gone within a week if they ever tried.

Author's Response: Those would all work, to one degree or another. There are simpler solutions, however.

The power of one bunny, whether from left or right, is indeed intriguing. Are the five really one thanks to the bun, or is the bond cast in the forge of fate one not to be denied?

Is it possible to be chaste when one knows all? Is the frailty of human sentiment to be lost for all time on some random moment, or is it all just a joke for one's benefit? Can awareness of significance lead to a simplificaiton of one event in a life that knows no limits? Can the fractions ever understand the whole?

Five is a powerful number, but far less than seven. The oddness is what is most alluring, regardless of which. Wherefore the numbers to provide the tidings of joy to come?

Author's Response: There you go messing up the formatting again. Shame on you.

Anyone can chase anyone. The key is the reason for the chase and the eventual fate of the chaste.

“She didn’t find any errors,” Hermione said, “but I’m sure she was being lenient for our first essay. I’ll have to work harder next time.”

You've got Hermione and the rest of the crew just right.

I don't like those PJs Molly sent. I guess you can't go wrong portraying her as a control freak though.

Author's Response: I knew someone like Hermione once. She's great fun.

Once again, I am in awe at your attention to detailing every nuance of Harry and Ginny’s bond, so far superior to any other story I’ve read that utilized the bond storyline.

The nuances of Harry’s fascinations for the heaviness of Ginny’s hair was a little glimpse into a world that is all their own. No one could ever truly understand the bond they share, nor are there words that could possibly describe what it must be like to feel, see, hear, smell and touch of another within your own senses. And it’s just fascinating the way you take on every infinite facet of their connection.

Malfoy. You seem to be setting this character up to be more of a thorn in Harry and Ginny’s life at Hogwarts, I believe he will have a major role to play in your story line than in Canon. “This isn’t over, baby Weasel.” Ominous that. Hmmm?

The remembrance of Ginny’s past run-in with Draco was very much ingrained into her psyche and how her physical sense of self-worth is tied to the value she places on her hair. It’s not vanity as much as it is the value her father placed on it, “He said it was worth all the galleons in the world because it was attached to my head, and it would be completely worthless if it wasn’t.” Therefore, she associates love, especially her father’s love with her hair and don’t we as women gain our self worth through the eyes of our father’s.

I loved Bun-bun and the role the brunesempra spell played in the story line, but I especially liked the cuteness factor and how childlike the moniker. Priceless.

Ginny has a wisdom that is far beyond her years, she’s an old soul, that one. “When you do something for the right reasons, you may just have to accept that it’s not the smartest thing ever, and then do it anyway.” Not something a 10 year old would normally say, but very appropriate to her character.

Her ability to forgive her hurt over Ron’s cruel words again shows a maturity far beyond her years and a compassionate heart that can accept him warts and all. “See? She commented to Harry, happy again. He’s Ron” It also shows that while Ron is reactive and hot headed, he also has a heart of gold. “Ron’s just so . . . so . . . Ron.”

So in the chapter we have audacity, strength of character, compassion of heart and the courage of lions.

And courage the mark of a Gryffindor again so eloquently stated by Ginny, That’s what courage is, right?” She continued. “Knowing that something is stupid or dangerous and doing it anyway because it needs doing. Congratulations, Harry (Ginny, Ron, Hermione, Neville). You’re a Gryffindor.”

Author's Response: Wow, what a kind review. I'm glad you like the details of the story. I sometimes wonder if I won't bore people with all the little things their union affects.
Malfoy will definitely be around to pester them. That's all I'll say for now.
Thanks for reading!

Author's Response: I'm trying to find a way to send Kudos to my betas by the crate, but they tend to melt in transit. They've contributed so much to this story, without trying to redirect my plot and events. The whole process is easier and results in a better product due to their involvement.

Wow lots of ground covered in this one!

I wonder how long it will be before Harry and Ginny decide showering should be private again or if they ever will. Either way you’ve left the opportunity for one of those embarrassing moments that you seem to relish bringing the funny with. The reaction to the pajamas was to be expected. Often one doesn’t care about freedom until it’s taken away; even if he or she didn’t use it to begin with.

I’m male, thus woefully ignorant of all things female, so the next bit focuses on Harry. Just thinking back to my early teenage years makes me cringe for the poor guy. Some thoughts, dreams, and early morning happenings that are bound to come up (no pun intended, but feel free to enjoy it just the same), involving the person with an all access pass to his mind no less, make his position less than enviable. I wonder if Arthur’s practical nature will force him to have an awkward talk with Harry at some point. He may not be a criminal, but a couple years from now he’ll be something much less trustworthy.

I love the irony in you painting Harry as a strong willed and tough kid with power to spare then making his first impressive bit of magic transfiguring fluffy pink bunnies.

Your Malfoy is perfect in the role of perfect bastard. Ron and Hermione we bang on. McGonagall was serious, but somehow didn’t seem at her usual level of austerity when she used the hair braiding example. Was that because of her good mood over finding a new seeker or just patients with younger students she has a soft spot for?

This was once again stellar!

Cheers,
Joel

Author's Response: You think Arthur wants to have that talk, knowing that Ginny is listening? Or vice-versa for Molly? As for dreams, well... wait and see, I guess.
McGonagall, in my opinion, is first and foremost a dedicated educator. In a classroom full of students, certain techniques work best for her to educate them all at the same time on a technical subject. With only a couple of students and a much more abstract lesson, different techniques are required. That, and she does have a soft spot for them.
Thanks for reading.

(slow day for me...)
I just found http://www.kidshealth.org/parent/general /body/growth_charts.html
and on the chart there, the LOW end for 11 year old US males, is 52 inches - the bottom 5 percentile. 50% of boys are at 56 inches.

48 inches is the low 5 percentile for kids aged about 8.5

(This is from 2000 data from the CDC in the USA)

To be honest, I'm not a statistician. But I do think I'm reading the chars correctly. It says that 50% of *seven* year old kids are 4 ft tall. This makes sense, as my 9 yr old is alread about 50-52 inches tall, and my 7yr old... I'm not sure, but I think he is over 4ft, or at least close to it.

best,
...art

Author's Response: From Chapter 1, Harry is "just a few inches over four feet tall". In my notes, he's 52" (4'4") tall, which is the bottom 5% for 11-year-olds, as you said. I used the same CDC charts you found to set heights and weights for my characters. In any case, yes... he's titchy. Ginny is even smaller, but at the same percentile for her age. This will come up again later.

A question... why did you make a point of Harry being so short? 4' is NOT a normal height for an 11 year old. I know that the Dursleys were not kind to Harry, but that seems excessively short.

Oh well, it led me to some googling and I found an intersting article in the New Yorker on the fact that Europeans are still getting taller, but the average american height hasn't changed since 1950, which they don't understand. But they did make the point that a child has three important height-gaining times in their life: one in infancy (Harry got that) one at age 6-8 (Harry missed that) and one at adolescence (Harry should nail that one, between Molly's feedings and Hogwarts' feedings -- assuming they avoid junk food)

Next... do you see the sleeping together need as something they might outgrow? once they have learned to become one, to be adjusted to this new state, might Harry's nightmare's ease off and lessen the need for this?

Next... this apparition ability will no doubt play havoc with Dumbledore's efforts to put Harry back with the Dursley's each summer. I look foward to seeing you deal with that question. Hmm, or it could lead to Harry getting to visit Egypt after 2nd year? At least in the evenings. :-)

Next... interesting how you have Hermione joinging the group so quickly. The troll in the dungeon won't be required will it?

Next... what about this "fire" ability!? They seem scared of it. I, on the other hand, find it fascinating, and I think they should learn how to control it so they can use it offensively and defensively. They need to know if it is exclusively tied to the emotion of anger/rage or if they can will it.

Oh yeah, and having ginny tickly Harry, and then lose it because the tickling was making _her_ laugh was absolutely brilliant. great idea.

best,

Author's Response: Harry's height will come up again (no pun intended) later. He's currently on the very low end of the spectrum for an 11-year-old male.
There are two factors in your question about sleeping arrangements. Both are mentioned in the story. This, too, will come up again.
Summer arrangements will have to be creative, yes. At the very least, Harry will have to have a very good reason to stay at the Dursleys when he could leave any time he chose.
With Ginny around, Hermione is closer to the group at this point, but she's not quite there yet. Stay tuned.
Thanks for reading.

Another GREAT chapter. More character developement was a nice touch as well

I read this (For the first time) last night, but wanted to give a good review, so i thought it out a bit.

BUB-BUN????? WON-WON will have a buddy.

snort, loved the fluffy scene. I wonder if they could make actual friends with it, seeing they gave it a nice present, unlime all others it scares away.

The magic? Is it not only intent, but something deeper? Ginny created the Bat-bogey, Harry the Bunnyhop. But, gin's seemed to be a bit more acurate. Was it because she just merged pre-existing incarnations, while harry was trying something new?

The Pajama's will undoubtably cause a bit of distance, and i don't just mean from each other. I wonder if Percy knows the removal spell and Ginny has to go to him. That would be a major rift.

Wished Ginny made the team as well, but nice view of the instructions. Wonder how often and long they have training? ANd is there advanced?

The troll is coming, the troll is coming. Will this be a bonding for the group as a whole as well? I never felt right that Hermione was blamed for it (By her choise). I mean why not just say she was in the loo and the boy came after her. Same as what Hermione origanlly stated, but no lies or blame to be placed.

As for the troll, wonder if this will be Their revealing to Hermione. Maybe even use of the teleportation skill

Well, as all ohers, can't wait for you're (Snort) next chapter

Chat soon

Ja ne

Jim

Author's Response: Hi Jim. This chapter almost doubled in length due to character development. Thank my betas for persuading me to flesh out a few scenes.
I've always wondered about the flying lessons. For the purposes of my story, they only have the one lesson to learn the basics. There must be some mechanism for folks to practice after that.
The Troll will come... give it time. =)
