Narrowing down the challenge topics

Sincere appreciation to readers and writers who have offered suggestions for challenge topics!  Since we need to narrow our choices down to 1 topic by Aug. 1, GinnyWeasley777 and GHL have whittled the list down to 6 possibilities which, in no particular order, include:

1.  Write about a secret source of tensions at the Burrow.

2.  Years into their marriage, Ginny discovers something surprising about Harry.  Tell us about it.

3.  James, Albus and Lily Luna are throwing a long-anticipated retirement party for their illustrious parents.  Help everyone celebrate with some stories of our two hero's extraordinary and unconventional careers.

4.  Harry ran away for all the wrong reasons.  Ginny has finally tracked him down.  What happens next?

5.  Someone is going on a magical creature hunt.  The challenge would be to tell why they are hunting the creature, do they find it, and tell about the journey.

6.  Come on now -- did Harry truly have to wait until spring of his sixth year to snog a certain redhead?  Think of another good opportunity to get our favourite pair together earlier.  Carpe diem!

Please use this forum to express your preferences.  If you're vocal and persuasive, others may listen.

Note that if your idea hasn't made it this far, or if it isn't chosen on Aug. 1, then do know that it's still under consideration for the future.  Feel free to keep reminding us!

I vote for 1. Write about a secret source of tensions at the Burrow.

#1 has some interesting possibilities. #6 has been done to death, but it never gets old.

FloreatCastellum came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 04:06AM to say:

I came up with 1 and 2 so it seems cheeky for me to vote for them, yet here I am, utterly shameless. I do also really like 5 though, I have an instant plot bunny. :)

CharmHazel came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 05:39AM to say:

I think #1 or #6 would be a good place to start, both have the potential to produce a fair few entries. (Plus they are the only ones I have ideas for!)

notadryeeye came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 09:04AM to say:

I'm intrigued by #1 and #2

Arnel came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 09:29AM to say:

Here's a Challenge suggestion: Molly has had to put the family clock in the attic because she's carrying it about constantly, just like she did during the war. Write a story about what caused her put it there and why she eventually brings it back out.

Arnel came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 09:33AM to say:

I'm intrigued by #1 and 5. I've already started planning my outline for both!

I like anything H/G so... anything would work really

I like 2, 4 and 6

Sasha came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 06:27PM to say:

I can't believe how long it's been since I logged in but I'm glad the challenge is back despite not knowing it was gone, lol. Anyway, I vote for #1 - I've already got a plot going!

BigFatMaybe came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.15 - 10:37PM to say:

I'm not really feeling the #1, if I'm honest. #2 seems the most interesting at the moment.

cyko2041 came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.17 - 02:48AM to say:

I'm Rather partial to prompt six myself

Lokken came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.17 - 09:26AM to say:

5. or 6. looks best right now, but it is all good anyway!

I like 4 or 5

BkRmGrl87 came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.18 - 07:26PM to say:

I like #2 and #5. They seem the most interesting.

Oops, I meant #2 and #4.

I would love to read some #1 or #2

PhoenixFeather2 came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.19 - 06:26AM to say:

#2 and #5 are my votes.

emile31 came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.19 - 11:55PM to say:

Definitely #6 or #1. I love the Harry/Ginny pairing because it's the one that gives authors the most freedom to reexplore the canon story and build on it, making us readers discover new things about a story we've known for so long. #1 would us to explore relationships and dynamics between characters and deepen our understanding and appreciation of them. It would make us conscious of facets of Harry and the Weasleys' personalities that we would have been blind to before. #6, in the same vein, lets us reexplore the Hogwarts years and the magic that comes with them. In all seriousness, I hate reading post-Hogwarts fics because they very often lose not only the magic of the Wizarding World but also the magic of Harry and Ginny's relationship. They're disrespectful of canon, and they build on JK Rowling's plot in any meaningful way; they're usually nothing but outlets for authors to project their own fantasies on. Let's not forget that this is a challenge topic--I find #6 and #1 to be the most challenging. They force authors to write pieces within certain very important constraints (Hogwarts, relationships between characters...), and in doing so force them to build on the original work instead of tearing it down. It is much more challenging to write within these constraints than it is to be given the kind of free rein embodied by topics 2 and 4.

Truthrowan came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.20 - 11:42AM to say:

1, 2, or 6.

Gin110881 came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.20 - 01:42PM to say:

I think that number 1 would be interesting and of course my evergreen number 6 (OK, I confess that it's a vote for my own proposal, but I'm truly ashamed of it, sigh). However, I think that in case of a close call the votes of the authors should outweigh the votes of the readers. The authors must be comfortable with the outcome of the vote. They're the ones who write the stories at the end.

Prongs I came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.21 - 04:14AM to say:

#4 and #6, or better the other way around #6 and #4.

pleurocoelus came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.21 - 06:10AM to say:

I'm partial to 5, myself. It can fit in a missing moment of canon, be in the 19 years, or an AU equally well. Plus, my muse has a germ of an idea for it.

RighT3rantZ came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.26 - 01:36AM to say:

#3 from the previous list....dagnabit! I suppose #1 from this list. May I point out people have been known to take an idea from my ...how do you say... ramblings (Great ideas, mind you) and redefine cosmic paradigms. GHL can attest, even though he vaguely alludes to disregard this fact in his circumspect manner :) Brennus as well, but that is an issue altogether too convoluted to address here.

starophie came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.27 - 09:21PM to say:

i'm a fan of the even numbers - 2, 4, and 6. i like two because i think there's still so much we don't know about harry, especially his life before hogwarts, and perhaps ginny finds out something about that. four is my favorite...i love 'harry runs away' stories, they're my guiltiest pleasure. and six is just a classic ;)

rpjames came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.28 - 01:44PM to say:

I'm partial to 1, 4 , and 6 myself. Six would be a lot of fun, though, and I already have an idea for it.

Brennus came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.31 - 10:42AM to say:

I'm partial to 12 and 23. That's beef chow mein with a side order of sping rolls

Brennus came out of the woodwork on 2016.07.31 - 10:42AM to say:

pleurocoelus came out of the woodwork on 2016.08.01 - 04:09AM to say:

Dang it, Brennus! Now I'm hungry.
