Facebook and/or Twitter for SIYE?
There has been discussion among the staff about the possiblity of creating a Facebook page or Twitter account for SIYE. I think we have hashed it out about as much as we can go without feedback from the users of the site.
So, we the staff wish to know what you, the authors and readers of SIYE think about the idea. Is this something a good amount of people would participate in? Is it worth the bother? If it did happen, what things would you want to see going on? If SIYE starts tweeting stuff, do you want news or story updates or both?
Please let us know what you think.
Thank you all and please remember to cast your votes for the Silver Trinkets.

You’re Having My Baby Challenge (2010-1) Closed
Well, by now we all know Mrs. Potter is going to have a baby. There are eleven stories that tell us that. Paul Anka would be proud. Now is the time for the judges to pick up their score sheets and start reading all the entries. Remember, they are looking for Best Overall, Romance, Husband/Wife Discussion, and Best Celebration categories. The winners will be posted on Monday, March 15, 2010.
Recent Comments concerning the Challenges have resulted in the conditions of the next Challenge to be less strict hopefully leading to more creative stories still based on the Challenge story plot. The Challenges are not being overhauled but just “loosened” a bit. They are still a Challenge after all.

2010 Annual Fund Drive Concluded
I believe that we have reached a point where we may conclude our fund drive. During the past week, generous donors have contributed $559.75 to the site. I would like to thank those generous people on behalf of our readers and authors. This would not be possible without you.
By way of information for those who have requested more details, I provide the following facts. It costs approximately $1200 a year to maintain the site itself. The staff provides its services on a volunteer basis. Because we do not advertise nor charge fees, it is necessary to turn to donations for the hosting fees. After renewing SIYE's contract last year I concluded that it would (1) put SIYE in a more secure position and (2) put me through a significantly smaller amount of stress if SIYE held it's fund drives twice a year. (That's really my main job as President--scrambling to make sure SIYE stays online.) The combined results of this fund drive and the previous fund drive leave SIYE with enough to pay our hosting and have some left over to bolster us next year.
If you have further questions, feel free to contact me. I will do my best to satisfy you.
If you missed this fund drive and are heartbroken, we do accept donations year-round.
Now . . . other business. The staff is concerned that a lot of things in the fan fiction world seem to be on the decline in general. We want to know what we can do to help make this site a better place. We also wouldn't mind hearing what you think we do well. Feel free to comment on this post or e-mail us via the contact information on the staff page.
Thank you all,
Robert L. Scott President, SIYE

Last DSTA Nomination Reminder
Only one week left to nominate your favorite stories that have published or updated since January 1st. Nominations for January/February DSTAs reopened on January 10th and will close next Sunday, February 28th.
To date, 128 users have nominated stories, which is fabulous! However, please remember that only the top ten stories that garner the most nominations will make it to the voting round. If you haven't nominated your favorite because well, gee, they were nominated already, please nominate them again. With the some of the categories having as many as 34 stories nominated, one nomination could change the ballot. So as you read, be sure to nominate if you feel the story's a good one!
As Harry got home, he went around the house and placed his packages at the back door. Then went around again and entered in through the front door. Ginny was sitting in the living room as he expected. After a few minutes of relaxing with her, he spoke up.
“I’m a bit hungry. I’ll make dinner tonight, okay?”
“You go right ahead. I’ll just sit right here and wait.”
That was just what he wanted to hear. Once in the kitchen, he opened the back door and brought in his packages and started on dinner.
About forty-five minutes later…, “Ginny, dinner’s ready.”
The first thing she noticed when she entered the dining room was all the candles. They were everywhere. On the dining table, with an elegant red and white table setting was two long red candles bracketing a single, long stem, red rose in a tall narrow vase. Out of place, was an opened parchment on the plate at her normal seat at the table.
Just another hint as to how this Challenge can be written.

2010 Annual Fund Drive
Yet again, the time to pay our annual hosting bill is fast approaching. SIYE does not advertise or charge admittance. Consequently, we must turn to raising donations for the site to function because we have no income. Thanks to the 2009 Semi-Annual Fundraiser, we are better off than we normally are at this time, but we are still short of what we need to ensure that the site remains online and able to function, etc.
Therefore, we’re asking for you to find it in your heart to donate to our cause if you can afford to and are willing. Even the smallest donation makes a difference and will be greatly appreciated by SIYE’s patrons, authors, etc. All donations go toward the continued functioning of the site. The staff and I provide our time and skills for free.
If you are interested in helping out, please click the link below to donate via PayPal. We thank you for your generosity and continued support.

You're Having My Baby Challenge Update #1
Not exactly impossible but highly unusual, the post owl landed on the top of Harry’s cubicle at work. St. Mungo’s emblem on it made it look important so Harry opened it up immediately. Once he realized what he was reading, he gave out a Woo-Hoo. What few Aurors there were in the room looked up to see what the commotion was all about. Harry just looked at his "in" basket, the calendar, then his supervisor’s open door.
“I request to have the rest of the day and tomorrow off, please. The only assignment I have is the McDermott case and that’s just background material for next month.”
“I take it that’s what all the hollering was all about?” his supervisor asked.
“Yes. I got some good news about Ginny and we need to do some celebrating.” Harry replied.
“Okay. I want to see you Monday morning, bright and early, and ready to hit that file.”
His supervisor barely heard the acknowledgement as Harry ran back to his desk to put everything away to leave. On his way out the door, his mind kept running through a list he was trying to put together…
1) Get flowers, big, red roses.
2) Honeydukes Chocolate Bon-Bons.
No, wait…
1) Dinner reservations at that Muggle restaurant she likes.
2) Hotel reservations at the beach resort they visited last year………..
This is one start on a good Challenge story. And I haven’t even started singing yet. Got any better ideas out there?
