And The Winners Are...
BOO! to you all on this Happy Halloween. This Challenge was exceptional! The judges have reached deeply into their bag of magic tricks and pulled out the winning entries in the Dark Autumn Challenge. Some got a treat of candy. Some got a trick of a rock of coal. There were nine good stories to read and judge the best of the four categories, including Most Dramatic. To end this mystery suspense, here are the results:

The Award for Best Overall and Most Adventurous goes to ...

"Combat Catalyst" by Torak

The Award for Most Romantic goes to ...

"Man's Greatest Power" by Arra_Angeline

The Award for Most Dramatic goes to ...

"Unsure" by Lady Linen Closet

An Honorable Mention goes to -

"The DA's First Test" by Lecook4

which would have won Most Adventurous if "Combat Catalyst" were not awarded two categories.

The winning stories are now prominently listed in our Featured Stories section.

Those of you that have multiple chapters or need to do some editing may continue at this time. The Challenge category is back open.

I thank all the authors that took the time to answer this Challenge and submit a story. And my thanks to all the judges that voted in.

Don't be spooked about the next Challenge November 15 when Hogwarts takes its Christmas Holidays. See what mischief some people can get into.

let's see:
e-x-p-l-o-r-e c-a-s-t-l-e, I believe?
So are we talking Marauder's map challenge or something?

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.30 - 09:04PM to say:

bibliophile19 - map? What map? I don't see no map!

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.30 - 09:11PM to say:

I'm not saying there is a map. but if they're exploring or 'discover'ing a castle, then a map might come in handy.

Oh and before I forget, Congrats Torak! You Won!

Ashlyn Alexander came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 12:07AM to say:

Tom: I sent you two different emails. I just got a delivery delay notice on one of them. So I'm not sure you got either one of them. Sorry.

brittpinkie came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 04:46AM to say:

Well congrats to everyone who won! Yay! Hmmm..and Explore Castle, eh? I'm excited...I might actually enter this one! :)

Congrats to all the winners again!

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 05:08AM to say:

Yay! (Blimey, I took two categories... )

Thanks, folks!

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 06:11AM to say:

A bit of advice, by the way: for this sort of fics, it really helps to plan the battle out beforehand. I drew it all out on a map of Hogsmeade that I filched from the Lexicon, so I knew where everyone had to be all the time. Thought the idea might be useful if anyone else wants to try it.

The map I used

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 08:01AM to say:

Congratulations to all the winners and writers of the challege.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 08:50AM to say:

Ashlyn Alexander - I acknowledged each nomination e-mails I received and I don't recall yours. I'm sorry I didn't receive them. I hope your nominations were close to those that did win. I'm awfully sorry.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 08:52AM to say:

Torak - I debated with myself of awarding you two categories instead of sharing the wealth. But you clearly won both. Congrats, dude.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 08:59AM to say:

Torak - BTW, I drew out my own version of a map of the Forbidden Forest when I planned the battle between Harry and Voldemort in "A Battle With Fire." It sure helps to know where the path is, the fallen tree, and large boulders in your way.

Ginebra Wood came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 09:55AM to say:

Congratulations Torak! wow! well the next challenge will be dificult "explore castle" I think I will enter this one...and Judges...we´re the best!

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.10.31 - 06:01PM to say:

To all Judges ... my directions of having your nominations in by Oct. 30 may have been confusing. Some thought they had till the end of Sunday to submit their choices in to me. I wanted them in by Sunday so I could calculate the winners in case I was otherwise busy the 31st. I posted the results since I thought I had all the nominations in I was going to receive. I'm sorry for the confusion and do not hold it against any judges. You all are welcome to be judges again for the next Challenge.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.02 - 11:48AM to say:

Congratulations to Torak, Arra_Angeline & Lady Linen Closet. I loved reading your stories. Thanks to all the judges and the loyal readers. It was great fun just to participate and I feel very lucky to have received the honorable mention. Congrats to all the writers. You are all winners in my book.

Irish_Lass08 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.06 - 02:36AM to say:

Man, your Halloween jokes sure were funny.

Okay, I apologize, that was rude. I couldn't contain myself. Let's just pretend it wasn't sarcasm.

Anyway, I feel stupid, because I suggested that challenge, but I didn't read nor write a single thing for it.

I'm such a failure.

But as soon as I have time and the next dark challenge, if such a thing exsists, comes around, expect me to kick some bum.

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.06 - 03:15AM to say:

Irish_Lass not to jump down your throat or anything, but why are you posting so late (and yes, I know i'm one to talk) and why did you post the exact same thing, down to the typos, twice, three minutes apart?

And as for being a failure, I, personally, would rather have you continue your WIP Life in every Word than take the time off for a one shot; those updates don't come frequently enough as it is (hint, hint). And besides, you came up with the idea for the challenge in the first place; I think that's enough of a contribution as it is.

cori_b came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.07 - 09:07PM to say:

I agree with bibliophile. Life in Everyword really is good and to keep all of us sain we need more frequent updates!!!!!

Irish_Lass08 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.09 - 05:26PM to say:

I apologize for my lack of updates and my late responses, but I don't have much free time, and the free time I do have I spend sleeping, so I've been unable to do much.

Anyway, back to the challenge. Congratulations, kiddos. I realize I'm probably younger than most of the winners, but I'm still going to call them kiddos.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.09 - 06:12PM to say:

Could have a competition. Youngest halfway successful fanfic author - don't think I'm in the running. ;-)

Telwyn Dubois came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.10 - 01:52AM to say:

Congrats everybody. Your stories were wonderful to read, and it was fun judging them. See you guys in the next challenge!

Prince Jeteon Evans came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.10 - 04:14PM to say:

When u bold words, what does it mean?

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.10 - 08:03PM to say:

Prince Jeteon Evans - some authors believe they spell clues to what the next Challenge is about. I tell them it is a typing mistake.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.10 - 08:35PM to say:

Hah, that's what you think!

I still say they're all going to find themselves wearing huge lapels and afros and boogieing along to Stayin' Alive. So there.

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.10 - 11:56PM to say:

AHH! Torak, you just blinded my mental eye with that image! AHH! AGGH!! NO, NO, STAY BACK, STAY BACK! If I didn't have a paper due in the morning, I would be sorely tempted to drink myself into a stupor, just so I can forget that image...
As for the clues, Sir Ollivander, perhaps you should borrow several of LiveJournal's heavily armed monkeys after they've moved their servers this weekend and get them to type your next set of denials. We might actually believe them then.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.11 - 05:49AM to say:

Yes! Go monkeys!

...

...sorry, I didn't get much sleep.

Prince Jeteon Evans came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.11 - 06:13PM to say:

i can tell.. Hmm...

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.11 - 08:48PM to say:

what's 'sleep'? I don't know what you're talking about... :)

arra_angeline came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.12 - 09:00AM to say:

I know this is rather late, but congratulations to all the authors who won this challenge, and thank you to those who voted for mine!! ^_^

'discover', eh?... 'explore', eh?.... 'castle', eh?... hmmmmm *rubs chin in deep thought* hmmmmmm....... hmmmm... hehehe...

Right.

brittpinkie came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.13 - 06:18PM to say:

The 15th can't come soon enough, gosh. Between waiting for this challenge and GOF to come out, I'm going absolutely mental...:)

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.13 - 08:42PM to say:

brittpinkie - my non-HP girlfriend just received a catalog in the mail last week selling some of the stuff you will see in the GoF movie, like Hermione's earings she wears at the ball. Can you imagine?!

Irish_Lass08 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.13 - 08:55PM to say:

I don't know if you'll read this, considering there's a thing above this, but what exactly does "non-HP girlfriend" mean?

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.13 - 08:57PM to say:

Irish_Lass08 - it means she's not into Harry Potter. I have no idea why she was send such a catalog.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.14 - 10:57AM to say:

I'm on tenterhooks waiting for tomorrow's challenge. I'm already hoarding plot bunnies, just in case.

And I've started planning a few silly ideas for my novel-length fic - gatling wands, anyone?

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.14 - 12:41PM to say:

torak, do you remember that plot bunny I sent you for the last challenge, the one that you decided not to use? Yes, THAT one. Try using that, if you can. With your writing abilities, I think you can give it justice...

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.14 - 04:29PM to say:

You mean the... Hrm... whooosh, whummm, whummm, chop?

Hmm.... we shall see. :-)

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.14 - 07:49PM to say:

Mmmmm....? Should I post the newest Challenge in the morning before or in the afternoon after work. Any suggestions?

bibliophile19 came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.14 - 07:52PM to say:

yes torak, THAT one... :D

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.15 - 02:42AM to say:

Ollivander - You need to ask? We're getting challenge withdrawal here! :-D

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.16 - 08:23AM to say:

Torak - so you probably want a hint about the Feb 2006 Challenge already?!

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2005.11.16 - 12:53PM to say:

Absolutely. And January and March, if you've got 'em. :-D

A Star Wars Disco Roller-Boogie Teletubby challenge!

....sorry, I'll get me dried frog pills...

pan came out of the woodwork on 2013.07.10 - 01:46PM to say:

we offer cheap and beautiful replica handbags for girls.
