Previously, SIYE allowed prologues and epilogues to be anywhere under the 1000 word minimum requirement on stories/chapters. We are now changing that rule. Prologues and epilogues must now be a minimum of 500 words.
In order for the Archivists to count your submissions as an epilogue/prologue, it must be clearly marked as being one or the other so that the submission can be distinguished from normal chapters and one-shots.
In addition to this, I must also add that stories which consist of a prologue and then an epilogue with no other chapters will not be allowed.
As Head Admin, I would also like to put forth a few suggestions concerning the use of prologues and epilogues.
1) It might be wise to have your first chapter ready to post before you post the prolgoue.
2) Authors should ask themselves whether or not their story really needs a prologue.
3) Authors need to keep in mind that a prologue is not a giant author note or an extended summary. It's a literal part of the story.
4) The story should be of a somewhat significant length before you think of adding an epilogue. At some point, this guideline may turn into a minor rule.
Please also keep in mind the fact that author notes DO NOT go toward the word count in a story/chapter. This has been a rule for some time.
This rule applies only to incoming submissions. Prologues and epilogues already in the archive are immune. There is no obligation for you to go and try to bring what you have already archived into compliance with this new rule.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.

that seems reasonable and rather self-explainitory.
