Married Lives Challenge Update #2

“Excuse me!” the Healer-midwife shouted as she ran past the three pregnant women.  She was moving in the direction of the screams and small explosions.

“Now why would she be wearing a Muggle Army helmet?” Hermione asked no one in particular.

“Magic deliveries are not handled the way Muggle births are,” Ginny explained.  “Wizarding fathers tend to risk being on the receiving end of some very nasty hexes if they remain in the room during the worst of the labor, especially the longer ones.  There’s a reason the Burrow is constructed so oddly.  It’s from the rebuilding after six children being born there.  Dad learned his lesson by the time Percy arrived.  Thirty-seven hours of hard labor.”

“I wish our baby could be born at home.  Neville says the insurance company absolutely prohibited it.  I suppose St. Mungo’s is a bit more solidly constructed.  Hmm…wouldn’t it have been nice if we could have the babies at our old Hogwarts infirmary?”

Ginny and Hermione nodded at their friend’s suggestion.  They were all sentimental enough to appreciate the idea.

“I suppose it doesn’t matter where our baby is born, as long as it’s healthy,” Ginny finally said, “and doesn’t try to take one of our brooms up before he or she can walk…like I did.”

Just a few thoughts inspired by the births of my own children.  By number two I really was ready for my Army helmet and flack vest.  What experiences can you translate to this Challenge?

*** Some experience from Spenser, thanks for the update.
