A Problem Validating New Chapters

Within the last few days, the staff of SIYE has been notified of a problem with validated stories by numerous readers. The reader will be alerted that a story has been updated. But when they access the latest chapter, they are told "access denied, chapter not validated." Our technical staff is currently looking into the problem. I am sorry for the inconvenience this is causing you.

Oh dear, a tech problem. I know the feeling... but I am also a reader and Strangers at Drakeshaugh is one of the "bestest" that I have had the pleasure to read. LOL. Still, thank you for looking into the problem and for letting everyone know what is going on. It really helps not to be in the dark. While I am at it, many congratulations for keeping up with the Challenges all these years. It has become one of SIYE's main stay... and long may it continue.

LOL. I agree totally with Silas. Give Northumbrian a complete pass and life will be easier for betas, mods and tech staff. Life is too short to read every word when said author does not need all that as he or she is close to perfection in his or her right.

Thanks everybody for being so understanding. I, too, am a fan of SoD and have about a dozen update notices in my in-box. My problem is that I see everything including chapters sitting the queue due to the rights I have on the web site that I don't "see" the problem. But we received enough e-mail from readers like you letting us know. We have our best working on the coding to find out why this started to happen. We'll get you "fixed" up soon. Thank you for taking the time to let us know that the problem is being worked on. However much I "need ma' stories" I understand that unknown technical issues take unknown amounts of time to fix. (And that 'time' is a finite resource.) I still hope it is corrected soon though; This junkie really needs his fixes... :-P -H- PS. I don't think you'll want to have unknown people poking at your system BUT if you need someone with PHP/Perl/Python experience to bounce ideas off just give me a shout... DS.

I just wanted to point out that for the story Alone by coastwatcher I received 2 notices for Chapter 10 that lead to "This story has not been validated..." But, I haven't received anything for Chapter 11, even though the chapter is waiting for validation. Hopefully the extra information can be useful.

I'm also grateful to hear the problem is being looked into. There seem to be quite a few stories that are on hold right now with chapters waiting to be validated, not just the ones mentioned above. I hope the fix will help all the authors. I imagine the authors are more frustrated than we readers. They have put their time, energy and hard work into a story, and we readers can't reward them by reading and reviewing.

It's like the SIYE servers are trying to tell us that we better fix this problem soon, or we're going to be overrun by owls!

Trust me, the rest of the queue has not been worked through. There are four other chapters in front of the Alone chapter that has been in queue longer. Thanks to all for their patience while the tech staff worked on this issue. We're trying to get through the validation queue as fast as possible.
