And The Winners Are….
The Christmas Holidays are over and these are the last gifts to hand out. Twelve judges spend their time reading the five entries in the December Challenge to decide who gets the big ribbon on their present. It wasn’t easy since there was so few. There wasn’t a lot of kissing Romance but a ton of Humor. And now, the results…

The Award for Best Overall goes to:
”Because He's Worth It” by sanidad

The Award for Best Romance goes to:
”Merry Mischief” by quinn

The Award for Best Humor (a tie) goes to:
”Because he’s Worth It” by sanidad
and
”Requiem For a Practical Joker” by Spenser Hemmingway

The Award for Best Originality goes to:

The winning stories are now prominently listed in our Featured Stories section. Those of you that have multiple chapters or need to do some editing may continue at this time. The Challenge category is back open. If your story is completed, please ensure it is edited and YES, as completed.

The 2008-1 Challenge is coming up shortly. It would be a good idea to practice your wintery scales. Bad weather, you know

PS: Some authors have asked if I would tell them how well they did in the judging. If you wish, e-mail me and I will tell you your results.

PPS: Gred, Forge, polyjuice, and remember the good times.

Ah... Baby, It's Cold Outside. It offers a nice setting.
Shame I don't like writing songfics...

Ginny Guerra came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.15 - 10:17PM to say:

Congratulations to all the winners! Isn't it Gred and Forge?

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.16 - 12:26PM to say:

Oops.

Victor Aagaard came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.16 - 06:29PM to say:

Congrats to everyone, but definitely to the winners!

janepotter came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 12:25AM to say:

Frank Loess Baby???

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 05:09AM to say:

Loesser. He wrote the song a couple of people have already mentioned.

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 10:24AM to say:

Hurray boys and girls! It's time for another one of my infallible predictions about Sir Ollivander's next Challenge. Harry and Ginny move to Nepal and adopt a baby yeti named Harold. He in turn grows up to be a Rosemary Clooney impersonator. The contest this time centers abound the creative ways Harry will have to come up with to sneak the abominable snowman into the Las Vegas showroom for an audition. That has to be it! Am I ever wrong?

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 12:50PM to say:

You know, I almost wish that was it now. You should write that anyway, just for the fun of it.

Miss Dreadnault came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 07:08PM to say:

I agree with Torak. Spencer, you should definitly write the story, whether or not it turns out to be the challenge. I am sure it would make for a good laugh.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 08:53PM to say:

BY MERLIN, NO! Don't encourage him. The west coast will never be the same.

KateriBella came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.18 - 10:04PM to say:

So, the bolded letters in Sir Olivander's notes DO mean something....hmmm, and I thought I was going crazy. Guess not.

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.19 - 01:04AM to say:

I utilized my prediction about a drunken owl in The Rest of the Story and it was well received. No, I really appreciated that suggestion as well. Hmm...? No, I truly believe that Sir Ollivander's prediction of the West Coast earthquake will come to pass in this particular case. Technically, I suppose that my Nelly Bly had enough of an association with Stephen Foster’s song to be deemed a borderline first songfic, but I am going to back away now to see what my friend has in mind for this Challenge. Oh for the days when SIYE will have its own soundtrack. Eric B.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.20 - 12:17AM to say:

We should do that. Put together an SIYE soundtrack album. I get the sneaking suspicion that Harry Potter tunes won't feature heavily...

ShadeXH came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.22 - 12:23AM to say:

Nah, man. You have to have a least one song by Harry and the Potters. Wizard metal woooooo

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.22 - 01:38AM to say:

Nah. Has to be music to be on the soundtrack. :-p

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.22 - 09:19AM to say:

“Nelly Bly, Nelly Bly, fly that broom along.
We’ll sweep the Quidditch Cup my dear, and sing this little song!
Seek the Snitch my lady love, and make that Firebolt soar,
And when I dodge the Keeper, I will make the Quaffle score!

“Heigh! Nelly Ho! Nelly, listen, love, to me,
I'll sing for you and play for you a Wizard’s melody.”

Stephen Foster is sitting up in his grave and scratching his head. Actually, in this modern age it wouldn't be that difficult for the right person to assemble a soundtrack. Any suggestions? Eric B.

The Electric Monk came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.22 - 09:50AM to say:

Late Night by Syd Barrett

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.22 - 12:56PM to say:

Harry and Ginny were lovers,
oh lordy, how they could love.
Swore to be true to each other,
just as true as stars above.
He was her man
and he was doing her wrong.
...
Ginny came lookin' to find him
and she wasn't lookin' for fun
for in her sweet, loving hand
she was totin' a forty-four wand.
To hex a man
if he was doing her wrong.
...
Well Ginny went in to the bar room
and right there, in front of her eye.
There was her loving Harry
making love to that Nelly Bly.
He was her man
she caught him doing her wrong.
...
Well Harry... and Ginny...
this is the end of their song
they had Albus Severus...

Bloody good thing Harry never did her wrong. ;-)

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.22 - 06:07PM to say:

Ah...the other Nelly Bly song. Actually it was Nellie as in Elizabeth Jane Seaman the news writer. It is also a somewhat entertaining character in the Elvis Presley film Frankie and Johnny, which co-starred a younger Harry Morgan...one day Colonel Potter on M*A*S*H.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2008.01.23 - 04:42AM to say:

Booyah, another obscure and spot-on connection perfectly drawn! Torak and Spenser, the SIYE External Reference Tag Team. :-D
