Muggle Picnic (2-2005) Challenge Closed
The Muggle Picnic Challenge is now closed. 28 stories - another WOW!!! It is time for all judges to read all the submitted stories and determine who the winners are for Best Overall, Romance, Humor, and Adventure. If you have already read some of the stories, please make sure the author hasn't edited or updated it after you read it. See the date of the last update of the story.

This is also the queue for the SIYE staff to please contact me acknowledging your participation as a judge or that you can't for whatever reason(s).

A couple of items I noticed in the submissions were of attention to detail. Some storytellers did not have their picnic on Saturday. They moved it to Friday. Maybe they wanted to cancel classes. Also, student names were used throughout the various stories. Colin & Dennis Creevey, Seamus Finnegan, Justin Finch-Fletchley, and Dean Thomas were mentioned in numerous picnic activities and helping out but not specifily identified as being Muggle- or half-n-half-born Hogwarts students. Yes, you kinda had to state that somehow. Some stories did. Some didn't. And last, I think we all learned, left on his own, Ron can't BBQ to save his life!

The results will be posted May 1, 2005.

Those authors with multiple chapters will be able to continue adding chapters after the judging is completed.

Still, good luck to all authors!

Spelunking?? Good Luck to everyone that entered!!

takefourmoments came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 09:50AM to say:

Wow...I did alot wrong =D
But I had tons of fun writing it. Good luck to everyone!

Muggle Witch came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 09:56AM to say:

Oh, cave exploring. (I feel like an idiot!) Should be interesting.

Ima Quidditch Fan came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 10:01AM to say:

I added my story last night at 10 minutes to midnight... it shows one read, but still hasn't shown up.

Is there anything that I can do?

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 10:19AM to say:

Ima Quidditch Fan - let me take a look. It shouldn't be a problem.

Ima Quidditch Fan came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 10:24AM to say:

Oh.... thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

It clearly isn't the best writing in the world, but I had fun doing it and wanted to share. :)

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 10:27AM to say:

Ima Quidditch Fan - it was sitting in the queue to be validated. So you were legit. Hey, every writer has to start somewhere, good, bad, or otherwise. A FanFic is an excellent place to learn. Plus, all our fun is free and clear. Keep writing!!!

chocolatePrincess came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 02:09PM to say:

I'm happy I was able to finish my story on time!!! There was sooo uch more I wanted to add, but I was afraid that I wouldn't make the deadline, I read a lot of awsome stories, and I had fun writing for the challenge.

Good luck everyone!!! ^_^

Ravenclaw came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 02:20PM to say:

Spelunking!? Like in a cave in Mt. Everest!? Weird!

I hope I was direct enough when mentioning my Muggle raised. O.o I was in such a hurry to get it typed that I didn't even have a chance to read back through it before posting. I am just excited I got it up!

Jim McGuffin came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 06:17PM to say:

Makes sense, Ravenclaw. But then again, how does this relate to Hogwarts? Unless, of course, the Room of Requirement must now be large enough to fit all of an entire mountain.

Laura Laurent came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 07:02PM to say:

Haha, brilliant job, Ima! I also got mine in at about ten minutes to midnight (west coast time no less) ---I was worried perhaps the admin were all living in new york and I had missed the deadline---looks like we made it though! Good luck!

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 07:25PM to say:

Laura Laurent - actually, it was 8AM, I had my first cup of coffee at work, in Florida, time. And I didn't check for any submitted stories that were not validated yet. That's done by another dedicated group of staff. But since I run the Challenges, that would be my responsibility.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 07:32PM to say:

Ravenclaw and Jim McGuffin - who said anything about the RoR? (*Hint*) Think of the school time frame the next Challenge will come up. There is a "theme" related to the time frame a Challenge is scheduled. (Remember, Hogsmeade Valentine was in February)

Lord Dreadnault came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.16 - 11:38PM to say:

Will probably be judging. :) Thank you to everyone for participating, I look forward to reading the entries. :D

Ravenclaw came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.17 - 04:04AM to say:

Heh. I never said anything about Hogwarts. I was just stating that it is a very strange premise for a Potter Fan Fic. I am going to go out on a limb and predict summer vacation with some sort of camping trip, with some kissing in the bushes. *hopeful*

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.17 - 06:37AM to say:

Ravenclaw - well, could be...and if they want to.... What do they want to do?

chocolatePrincess came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.17 - 08:57AM to say:

hmmmm I thought the next challenge would be in the summer...along the same time as Harry's Birthday...I thought we would have had to plan the birthday party...But I think Ravenclaw is right, it could be a camping trip of some sort

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.17 - 09:38AM to say:

ChocolatePrincess - the third Challenge is in the May-June timeframe. The fourth Challenge is in July-August. But I like your thinking. Camping, if they want to...

chocolatePrincess came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.17 - 06:17PM to say:

Ya, I figured I was thinking too far ahead...

Ravenclaw came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.18 - 05:03PM to say:

The only thing that I can think of that happens during that time is that Harry faces Voldemort lol

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.18 - 06:29PM to say:

Ravenclaw - yup, you're right, The Dark Tosser usually does show up at about this time. But not in the next Challenge. He may a few Challenges down the road, though.

SeekerGirl came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.18 - 11:46PM to say:

The dark tosser! Ha! I love that.

I honestly can't think of anything else that comes up at that time except maybe the house cup and finals. *shrug* I can't wait to find out more, I am looking forward to participating again.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.19 - 08:03AM to say:

SeekerGirl - well, I think I can positively state I will have at least one story submitted for this end of school year Challenge. The "Dark Tosser" came from a number of stories published here. I guess I'm getting into the same habit.

SeekerGirl came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.19 - 03:18PM to say:

I remember it from Jeco's This Means War. I just think it is funny.

I wanted to participate in this last one, but I have been suffereing horrible writer's block. I am nearly finished with chapter eighteen of Getting Reaquainted, and as long as I contintue to work on it, I will not feel guilt about writing other things. :)

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.19 - 04:58PM to say:

SeekerGirl - funny you should mention "This Means War" by Jeco. I just wrote and heard from him. He has another hugh chapter ready to publish.

Don't feel guilty. Write your story. Another Challenge will come along.

SeekerGirl came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.19 - 06:41PM to say:

It is just so odd. I am pretty sure I am not the only one who feels that way though. I feel like it is wrong for me to write something else while I have people who take the time to actually read what I write waiting for an update on a story that I have been writing for nearly a year. o.O I wasn't planning on Getting Reacquainted taking soooo long to write. I was hoping for 10 chapters... 18 is almost ready! LOL ~Amber

LuckyHP came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.22 - 05:22PM to say:

How often do you guys post challenges on the web site? I missed this one due to not enough time bause of homewok.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2005.04.22 - 08:35PM to say:

LuckyHP - I am Tom, the Asst. Admin at SIYE and am in charge of Challenges. I have set a schedule where SIYE will have six Challenges a year. There will be 30 days to write and submit a Challenge story; 15 days for the judges to read, judge, and submit their nominations to me, and I post the winners, and 15 days off (we get a break). So, every two months. The results of the Muggle Picnic Challenge will be posted the end of April. The next Challenge starts May 15th. Good luck.
