It's a Harry and Ginny site, there are lots of others sites, let us worship them :) sapphire200182 came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 12:53AM to say: So, the SIYE Admins are initiating a purge, eh? High time too. I fully support this move. That being said, I hope my next fic doesn't get wiped out in the purge too. Liebe rot Haare came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 09:23AM to say: This is a very smart way to address a problem! Fight creativity with creativity! Being a new member to the site, but not relatively a new user, and understanding the "main dedication" isn't hard, but I can see where people might start to stray. I'm glad to see that you do have a policy in place that does allow authors some room to expand on other characters though. Another smart move! Kudos all around! Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 10:10AM to say: Other characters matches are certainly permitted. An excellent example is Ron and Hermione. I even married poor Spenser off in one story. The point we are trying to make is that the stories must belong to Harry and Ginny. They must revolve around them, concentrate on them, promote and celebrate their pairing. Side plots certainly aren't discouraged if in the end they accomplish this. For a specific explanation we refer everyone to the Submission Rules found under the HELP tab on your screen. Take a gander at Number One. One last point that I would like to make is that some of the stories that can’t remain are actually very good. We encourage the authors to post their Neville/Hannah Abbot novelettes at more general sites. Thanks to everyone for their support with this. Eric B. Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 10:38AM to say: Does this mean I finally get to open that shiny can of whup-posterior I've had lying around? Shiny... :-D Miri came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 10:52AM to say: While I certainly applaud the re-stating of the purpose of this site, I'm also a little uncertain as to why it has become a necessity, including, apparently, something of a purging. I haven't come across any stories on here that don't fit the Harry/Ginny requirement but then I don't read every story that comes up on the site--it just seems that way at times LOL. For those who want to do other ships or a story that includes G/H but only as a subplot, I suggest "Phoenix Song" which is a very good site (and the one I read from 2nd most frequently to here), that accepts all canon ships. Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 11:39AM to say: Reasoning - the fact that you don't see a lot of stories that are not Harry/Ginny related is that the archivists catch them in the validation stack for review and disapprove them before you get to see them. The few you do see posted started with some idea that they would be the main characters. But as the chapters continued, Harry & Ginny were not. SIYE is putting a stop to that. We are not purging any and all stories that are already posted. But from now on, those we see where it’s not very obvious Harry & Ginny are the main characters, the author will be questioned before approval is given. PhantomPhoenix came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 04:27PM to say: I'm glad that we're getting across that this is a Harry/Ginny fan site. I have one concern. What if there is let's say a serise where you have to read the whole thing for it to make sense, but one of the ffs isn't centered around Harry, and Ginny, then what? Does the author combine it with another ff in the serise, or just drop it out of it entirely. The only reason I have thought of this is because there is a serise that I am reading on this site. And I'm confused as to why one of the characters is acting the way they are, because the ff evplaining it, is not on this site. Well, that aside, I think it is a good thing that you guys are making it clear that this is a H/G site. Maybe it will get through people's heads this time. Chris Widger came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 07:53PM to say: I am somewhat surprised that you are really having that much of a problem. Considering that every single banner you can possibly choose for this site features both Harry and Ginny, often with them clearly the central figures ought to get this point across. That said, I'm sure it is a problem if you chose to make this post, and I think you covered just about everything. P.S. Just in case anyone was wondering, the first story in my Grey Maiden series, which I believe uses the name "Ginny" exactly once, was authorized some time ago because I was writing a story where it made no sense to introduce Ginny in the first installment. Rest assured, she is featured quite prominently starting with the 3rd chapter of the second installment. Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 08:54PM to say: Chris That is plausable and expected. Many stories begin by building the storyline, especially the ones that recount the books, or fill in missing scenes in the series. Ginny was barely introduced in PS and no one would expect them to have a emotional relationship at 9 and 10. In one of my stories she doesn't even make an appearance until the last paragraph of the first chapter. Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.30 - 10:27PM to say: PhantomPhoenix: I'm not speaking as an archivist here, but I think there's also provision for short stories that are not directly about h/g, provided that those stories are part of a larger h/g-centric series. At least, I certainly hope that's how it works. sapphire200182 came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.31 - 01:50AM to say: I think it's great that the Admins and Archivists will ask for an outline first before writing the fic off. Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.31 - 02:17AM to say: Well, we're not psychic. Of course, when the story hits chapter eleven and has yet to feature either of the names "Harry" or "Ginny", we can take a pretty good guess. DarkLady came out of the woodwork on 2007.10.31 - 06:31AM to say: This is why there is a website called fanfiction. That lets you post whatever story you want about whoever you want. I think people who post stories up on this website about other's obviously missed the hint. Harry and Ginny fanfiction archive, could it get any more clearer than that? RyokoTenchi came out of the woodwork on 2007.11.01 - 01:49AM to say: Just out of Curiousity i am the one banging my head on the table aren't i? Come on Admit it Val... You have me banging my head against a table repeatably.. Are you trying to say something? :-D Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2007.11.04 - 08:44PM to say: Ryan Lol! No, it's not. It could have been, but I had someone else in mind. Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.11.05 - 05:04AM to say: If the argument had been about authors stubbornly refusing to accept that the rest of the world doesn't believe in their own quirky variation on the theme of spelling, then the thumping could have been me... | |||||||||||

Good thing! There are loads of sites for other characters. Let Ginny and Harry reign here!
