And The Winners Are….
I’m back from flying off to the Canadian Rockies and Canada & Alaska’s Inside Passage, train and cruise trip. And my Internet modem is working again, ”Yea!” There were a lot of e-mails waiting for me. Unfortunately, there were very few judges’ nominations. But the winners did shine through. Our seven judges had to work through all fourteen stories. And now, their results…

The Award for Best Overall (a tie) goes to:
”A Treatise On The Perils Of Excessive Involvement In The Reading Of Fiction” by Torak
and
”Second Star to the Right” by Miss Radcliffe

The Award for Best Romance goes to:
”Ginny Weasley and the Amazing Neverland Quest” by DQBunny

The Award for Best Unusual Story Creativity goes to:
”A Treatise On The Perils Of Excessive Involvement In The Reading Of Fiction” by Torak

The Award for Best Adventure goes to:
”Weary Hearts and Happy Thoughts” by Dianne

An Honorable Mention goes to:
”Oh My Darlings! Oh My Darlings!” by Spenser Hemmingway
for earning the highest amount of votes without winning in any one category.

The winning stories are now prominently listed in our Featured Stories section. Those of you that have multiple chapters or need to do some editing may continue at this time. The Challenge category is back open. If your story is completed, please ensure it is edited and YES, as completed.

The 5-2007 Challenge is coming up shortly. It would be a good idea to brush up on your mechanical skills.

PS: Some authors have asked if I would tell them how well they did in the judging. If you wish, e-mail me and I will tell you your results.

PPS: Shadow, dust, star, Michael, John, Nana, Barrie, and your childhood imagination

Congratulations to all the winners and a special nod of kudos to Torak. All the nominees were excellent and the winners well deserved. I never understood how you could have the most number of votes without winning anything at all. LOL! But, Eric I guess you won the prize for that. :-) Great contest you guys.

Miss Radcliffe came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.16 - 09:24PM to say:

Congratulations to DQBunny, Torak, Dianne, and Spenser Hemmingway. You have no idea how honored I am to have gotton this recognition. I'm still kind of shocked actually, the other submissions were all so amazing. Can't wait for the next challenge to be up! The wand and the engineers....hmm...could it have something to so with the Peverells? I guess we'll see! Miss Radcliffe~

Flibertygibet came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.17 - 01:44AM to say:

Sorry, this has nothing to do with this news post, but I saw that you mentioned you were on a train trip in Alaska. My, soon to be, brother-in-law is a cook on those train tours. I know I don't know you personally but it just struck me how small this world really is. I hope you had a good time.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.17 - 06:16AM to say:

Thanks all! And I got both categories I wanted, so I'm well chuffed. Megs, Eric, Dianne, Miss Radcliffe, congrats to you too.

DQBunny came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.17 - 06:20AM to say:

Congratulations to everyone! This was a nice surprise to discover when checking the site earlier!

Flibertygibet - I did have a great time. The train portion was actually in Canada. The VIA Rail "Canadian" over-nighter from Vancouver to Jasper, with a dining car. Then, VIA Rail's "The Skeena" two-day day trip from Jasper to Prince George to Prince Rupert, with good "airline-type" food service. Enjoyed every minute of it. Saw eagles and black bears.

Dianne came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.17 - 02:02PM to say:

Hello, Sir Ollivander! Oh wow, I'm Canadian eh? And you know what's weird? I'm going to be on a cruise leaving out of NY next Monday so we both get to see a bit of each other's beautiful countries. Hope you had fun! And to the winners, congratulations and I want to also say that I enjoyed the other entries very much too. Everyone works so hard on the challenges so I want all entrants to be very proud of their work. Well done!

Ginebra Wood came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.17 - 05:30PM to say:

Very well done to all of you, I hope to see you all on the next challenge. I can´t wait to know about it. Sir Ollivander, glad to have you back!

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.17 - 06:00PM to say:

Okay now! Enough! What am I supposed to do with Sir Ollivander's polar bear? He won't take it back and it's eating my sofa! Blast! It just went through the sliding door and it's heading toward Grandpa's still! Tom...is this revenge for the drunken owl that did that on your pillow a couple Challenges ago? Sigh!

Belcris came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.18 - 01:20AM to say:

Congratulations to everyone. :)

Your trip sounds really great. I love train trips but I never consider it a good trip until I find the engineer and talk with him. You would be amzed at how hard he can be to find sometimes. :)

Chris

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.18 - 01:51AM to say:

Belcris - Yeah, the trip was quite a success. Wait till you see the…er…(457 + 395 + 235 + (10 x 24) = ) the 1327 pictures we took. At least half has to come out pretty good.

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.19 - 12:54AM to say:

The Engineer! Ah, now I understand...no I don't. Wait a minute...it's coming to me now. The next Challenge is about a suave millionaire playboy who is know as The Engineer, ala The Saint, The Thin Man, The Shadow…The Man From Murray’s Delicatessen (sorry…paid endorsement/shameless plug for my favorite sandwich shop--try the pastrami). He travels the world solving crime and kissing beautiful women who then never get another decent acting job. Harry encounters him at a Gilderoy Lockhart look-alike concert and enlists him to help him find a possible Horcrux—The Maltese Penguin. The Engineer is brilliant, but he is easily distracted every time he catches sight of a set of Legos. As always, I am absolutely certain that I am correct about this. I have a perfect record with my predictions (don’t say it Torak). Trust me! Eric B.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.19 - 06:33PM to say:

Yes you have, unbroken. ;-) I do like the idea of a Lockhart tribute band...

Belcris came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.19 - 08:06PM to say:

A Lockhart tribute band would be interesting but I get a bit nervous thinking about the dancers and backup singers. Scary.

janepotter came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.19 - 10:37PM to say:

The Engineers? Woah...Stop it, fanfic ideas. I still need to finish writing the other five in my head!

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.20 - 12:55PM to say:

Legos? Close.

the engineer?????????????????????

Soccer Devil22 came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.22 - 12:07AM to say:

Dude, SIYE Admin. just dropped the ball... again. HELLO! Did we forget someone's B-Day? I'll give you three hints: She has brown hair. Harry and Ron saved her from a Troll. And her name is HERMIONE (GRANGER) WEASLEY! On that note, I'd like to wish our favorite bookworm a belated 28th B-Day. I'm sending her the updated version of Hogwarts, A History so hopeful she'll forgive for forgetting. lol ~Jeff~

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.22 - 08:06AM to say:

Yeah, but we don't really like her. :-P

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.09.22 - 10:34PM to say:

Soccer Devil22 - no, we really didn't forget her. We just covered Harry & Ginny and their real counterparts, Daniel & Bonnie.
