:] Another great batch of stories up for nominations again. Good luck to everyone! Oh. And has the problem regarding the 'Best Author' catagory come up again? The poll isn't there for that section... lol

xhpluva4evax came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 12:20AM to say:

Haha!! When I clicked 'vote here' again, I recieved the message: This poll is not yet open. It will be available at 12:00:00 AM on April 2, 2007. LOL I guess that I was one of the few fortunate enough to get a sneak peek of it :] I suppose I'll vote again when it opens...

xhpluva4evax came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 12:27AM to say:

Wow. I just have to post another message now. I refreshed the home page and saw the new Challenge update, and commented it. But when I clicked submit, it showed that I commented an empty page. And now the news post for the Challenge has been taken away!! I must be really lucky to see the poll AND challenge for the few moments it is up... lol. Hopefully this will be my last comment. Unless you guys give us some more sneak peeks :]

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 01:45AM to say:

I keep getting the message "Invalid Poll".

carolquin came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 08:40AM to say:

hmm, i voted with no problems... i'm excited about this poll. there are so many different stories for each category. it really is anyone's award to win! good luck to all.

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 10:47AM to say:

Well it's workin now, so no big deal. Good luck to everyone!

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 11:29AM to say:

This vote was posted in error. Please ignore it. It is not a valid vote and will not be used as a Trinket award. DO NOT waste your time voting on this. We are having technical difficulties due to April Fool's Day!

Spenser Hemmingway came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 11:44AM to say:

Happy Birthday George and Fred Weasley! Now get out of the SIYE computer system!

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 11:51AM to say:

Not valid? Yes its valid. hehe

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 12:01PM to say:

Well, bless my bowtruckles... AdminQ, put that Fire Whiskey down, and no those aren't parading pixies. It's too early... or late depending on where you are, to be drinking that stuff. Tell Fred and George to stop helping you write code. You know they never really passed their OWLS. They've made a mess of the trinkets. I know they are a mess, cause I'm not listed and winning every category.

Marauder Evans came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 12:04PM to say:

Well, then...I guesss it is indeed Happy April fool's eh? Hey, at least they passed three owls! Got to credit them at least for that...!

hjp74 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 12:40PM to say:

NaruKoibito came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 05:21PM to say:

Fred and George?! Where? *takes out Colin Creevey's camera* Shucks, did I miss them? And I wonder...is this a real poll or not? o.o; Kind of sad if it isn't because so many people voted already.

Torak came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 05:42PM to say:

NaruKoibito, wonder no more - it is not a legitimate poll. There are factors causing some trouble at the moment, but Steve and his bods are working to sort it all out as soon as possible. Right, Steve?

AdminQ came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 07:32PM to say:

Nope :-) The poll is legit, and I might just keep it after all why not? So many ppl voted it seems best to keep it right?

NaruKoibito came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 07:37PM to say:

Ha ha, now that's even more confusing. ^_^;

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 07:58PM to say:

You're too funny Steve. Like I said, I'm not listed and more importantly, winning, so it can't be a real vote.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 08:12PM to say:

You're too funny Steve. Like I said, I'm not listed and more importantly, winning, so it can't be a real vote.

xhpluva4evax came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.01 - 11:58PM to say:

Hmm... is the PORNOGRAPHY story just an April Fools joke? Heh. :]

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 08:46AM to say:

I hope it's a joke. It's been entered into every DSTA category and I seriously doubt it was nominated that much. And it says it was uploaded May 1st.

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 11:07AM to say:

TO EVERY READER - the current situation with the story Pornography has gotten out of hand. The story is illegal and is unauthorized by SIYE Administration and the direct wishes of the owner of SIYE, Robert. Steve of Technical has posted this story and has locked out all of Admin's capabilities to delete it or remove it. I am sorry to say this original disagreement has spilled over to our readership. Tom Sir Ollivander SIYE Administration

Sovran came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 11:54AM to say:

Whether or not the story is allowed to be posted is one thing, but whatever artificial manipulation took place to post it (the inaccurate dates and impossible DSTA nominations) also seems to have messed up the DSTA ballot generation routine. There are several stories that should be on the ballot, particularly in Overall, that aren't. Whatever else is going on, it's horrible to deny users the opportunity to vote for good authors and stories that legitimately deserve to be on the ballot. And my story was not affected, so I'm not just angling for my own purposes. And, for the record, that story has no place on SIYE, in my opinion.

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 12:02PM to say:

Yeah. My story wasn't affected either, but "Home" was kicked off the One-Shot list when it should have a spot. I'm sure the powers-that-be are doing everything they can to take care of it. I hope everything works out okay.

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 12:29PM to say:

Well, I certainly hope we've seen the last of Steve, and I hope you can find a way around it, Tom. Personally, one of my favorite aspects about SIYE is that I know if I read a one-shot there is no chance of Harry dying. Not going to read that, nope, nope, nope. This story has no place on SIYE, and I'm really sorry to see it messing with the other stories in the nomination lineup.

intromit came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 05:09PM to say:

Speaking of one-shots that end in death... While I'm in favor of the rule, it needs some work. Pornography (ignoring any other objections to the story) probably shouldn't fall under it with a "single" chapter size of 24,000 words. Many multi-chaptered stories are much shorter than that. What about stories that are less than 3,000 words, but are two chapters? How is this better than a one shot that ends in death? I've also seen one-shots posted on SIYE that do end in Harry and/or Ginny's death.

Back to the problem at hand. I would like to know what caused this entire fiasco. My experience with Steve has always been very positive and I've found him level-headed. Whether or not you or I think it was justified, it worries me that something provoked him to this.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 05:32PM to say:

Intromit - It doesn't matter if he was or wasn't provoked, the point is, he has no right to do what he's done and abuse his power and our trust in him.*shakes head sadly* I really had more respect for him than that. I guess it was missplaced.

intromit came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 06:13PM to say:

lecook4:You missed my point, and your point about trust while valid, is now moot. My concern is what is happening within SIYE for this to happen. I don't care whether it was justified or not. Your response only causes me more concern because it highlights the negative feelings that have obviously been building. I believe you're a member of the staff (I really don't pay too much attention), as such I'm curious where SIYE is going to go from here.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 07:00PM to say:

Turst is never a moot issue. If anything it means more, given the diatribe that Steve just subjected us to. This is a private battle between him and Val and should never have been brought into the public forum. He has spun his news article to fit what he wants and not what the whole truth is. There is no right or wrong side, only shades of gray. both are right and both are wrong. Please, I hope all readers and authors will just allow this to cool down and let the dust settle. SIYE is not going anywhere and will continue to function. The majority of staff at SIYE are wonderful folks who have nothing but the sites best intentions in mind. Please give us all some time to gather our thoughts.

intromit came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.02 - 07:41PM to say:

Easy. Take a deep breath. Trust has already been broken and once broken it is often irrecoverable - that's what I meant by moot.

I'm just concerned about what is going to happen to the site. I don't know how things work here or how many people are on the tech staff, but losing essentially your webmaster is a bad, bad, baaaaad thing. I'm not interested in placing blame. However, I don't want to see this to happen again when and if a replacement for Steve is found and that means the reasons for Steve's dramatic departure should be addressed and reflected upon - even if the decision is that Val (is that Professor Scroll? - as I implied, the inner workings to SIYE are mostly a mystery to me) was right about whatever the feud was over and Steve just went off the deep end. I've said my piece, now I think I'll step back and see how it turns out.

melindaleo came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.03 - 08:06AM to say:

Intromit - I really don't care if a story is 3,000 words or 24,000 words, if it's posted in a single chapter, it's a one-shot. If a story is posted in several chapters, I have the option of deciding to hit the continue button or not. A one-shot comes up all in one go. It is my opinion that the one-shot no-death rule is a good one. I like it, and I was well aware of it when I posted here - as is anyone else. If someone doesn't like it, there are plenty of other sites where they can go to post. For me, I like the rule, and it is one of the things that attracted me to this site.

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.03 - 11:26AM to say:

Just change the rule to where you can't have a H/G death in a story that's under 10,000 lines or something. Honestly I don't even know why the rule is there. So someone dies in a short story. The reader can post a bad review, a good review, or no review at all. It's up to them if they like it or not. But that would be preaching to this Robert guy. Until he changes the rule, people have to abide by it. I got no problems with that. I'll enjoy reading the stories either way. It's not as big of a deal as the admins are making it out to be.

lecook4 came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.03 - 05:36PM to say:

It used to be a big deal, before JK came out with Book six and paired Harry & Ginny. SIYE was swamped apparently with a lot of one-shot stories that killed off Ginny in sort of a hate mail type flood. It was mostly those who wanted Harry and Hermione to get together. Once book six came out, a discussion as to whether the no one-shot death rule was still valid came up and the Archivists were told that Robert, (the Owner and final say to the rules) wanted to keep the no death rule. We all agreed to uphold his wishes. One author took exception and this is what we have now. Basically that is all the Archivists know. We have not been a part of the arguments until Steve took this public. It was as much a surprise to us as to all of you. I liked Steve but this goes too far. He is the one making the no death one-shot rule a big deal, not the admins. This is his party and we are all just along for the ride.

QwayMelqnu came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.03 - 05:53PM to say:

Oh, well that makes more sense then. It's nice to know the history behind the rule, somewhat. --- No biggie though. Won't really affect me as far as I know.

NaruKoibito came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.04 - 03:12PM to say:

Wow, that does explain the rule a lot. Still, I do somewhat wish that it were possible to write one - not out of hatred because GRR to all Ginny haters! But really - I have seen some where Harry dies. And they weren't bad stories either. So...I don't know. Why are there exceptions?

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2007.04.04 - 04:21PM to say:

NaruKoibito - there are no exceptions. However, a few have slipped through the cracks. We are only Muggles after all. If they are caught very shortly after posting, we try to get the author to remove and edit them into two chapters. We hate to remove a story once we approve them. If they have been posted for a few weeks, we won't. A possibility, maybe a certain disgruntled archivist approved them. We have been sabotaged before.

so, is the poll valid or not? Merlin's Beard, I'm confused...
