New Category

Based on a few suggestion posted to the TechCenter, SIYE is happy to announce a new category, Post-Hogwarts - All stories that take place during the time after Harry Potter would normally complete his seventh year at Hogwarts, or the end of book seven(7).

However, just because the students are now adults, this category does not mean that we will accept adult themes and issues. All current rules with be adhered to. We still will not have a NC-17 category, nor will we accept stories referencing the use of illegal drugs, Inappropriate behavior, etc.

The SIYE staff is determined to keep this site within the vision set forth by Jenn, the site's creator. This vision has resulted in the set of rules which SIYE will operate under. As a community, we abide by these rules to make this site the enjoyable place we have come to love today. We are a bit conservative in our ratings and subject matter. JKR leaves the fanfiction sites alone for the most part, but she has requested that we remember that these stories were intended for a younger audience and that we keep faithful to that. Please remember that a large section of our membership is younger teens.

Very cool! Though now I have a question. In my newest story, GInny is in the last half of her seventh year and the trio have left. Would that be considered Post-Hogwarts since the trio is no longer in school?

I believe that if Ginny is in her own seventh year, then your story is taking place after the seventh book. I think that the intent here is in anticipation of the final volume. Post-HBP now refers to Harry's own seventh year, whether or not he is at Hogwarts. At least that is my interpretation. I have to recatagorize a few things myself. Eric B.

Donning my official hat, I want to throw my support behind Valerie's other topic. I generally will not read an R-rated story on my own. As an Administrator of Content I often have to, but I don't feel that most are appropriate. I will say that I have actually seen a couple that were excellent, but my children will never read them. Imagine how I feel about NC-17. The object of this site is to produce and read good stories within the realm of J.K. Rowling's world. She does not cross the line, and neither should we. You do not need to be staff to raise the red flag if you spot something wrong in a story. Enough ranting...how about them OSU Beavers winning the college world series? Go home team! Eric B.

I think the new category is a great idea. And thanks for keeping the content NC-17 free. It is so nice to have a kid friendly site. Also, on a friendly-site related note...thanks to all of the members of this site for being so supportive of each other's attempts at creativity. I have never frequented a site where the comments and reviews are so positive and constructive, and newcomers are so welcome. It really feels like a nice, well-behaved little family.
