Archivists Needed
Due to the increasing number of submissions, the Administration has decided that it is necessary to bring more people into the staff. Serving on the SIYE Staff can be fun and exciting. However, you must realize from the beginning that the position is not just fun and games. It carries great responsibility and can be time consuming.

We need people who are fairly experienced with reading and or writing fan fiction. If you already are an author at SIYE you do not need to submit a sample of your work, but for those of you who are not published and have no desire to be published, we would like an explanation of your qualifications.

In your email, please include the following:

1. A short paragraph about yourself, to include, your age, hobbies and any background information that would set you apart from the other applicants.

2. The amount of time you are willing to commit to SIYE.

3. Define your perception of the rating system: G, PG, PG-13, R.

If you are interested in joining the SIYE Staff, this is your opportunity. We need people who have the time to commit at least 5 hours a week.

Applications will be accepted through May 7th. Please reply to the following address: professor_scroll@siye.co.uk

I've tried twice before and don't know why I was turned down either time, so I think I'll just pass this time around.

Validating is extremely satisfying. You are the final stage before a story can be posted here, and one of the people who help guarantee the quality of our site's stories. A great story often goes through several checks before it is released, often including a Beta and a test audience. It really can be a group process. Helping in the validation process is not just quality control. It is helping the author develop their skills, ensuring the visitors here have a readable story, and keeping the focus always on the Harry/Ginny relationship. If you have a respect for these things, patience and a good eye for detail (Alastor Moody has already sent his letter), then I strongly encourage you to submit an application. Thanks! Eric B.

Being an archivist is an amazing experience! You get to see so much variety in what you read and you can unearth a lot of hidden treasures. However, the amount of time required is no joke. This is a very prolific site and we get tons of submissions. I would encourage anybody who feels they would be able to fit the specifications to try for the post, being an archivist on SIYE is really awesome.

Hmm, how old does one have to be?

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.28 - 09:21PM to say:

pottergirl101 Age isn't a prerequisite. We have had staff members from 13 to over 50. You have to like to read, (there is a lot involved). You need to have a good grasp of the English language - spelling, grammar and punctuation. And a love for the HP universe and H/G relationship.

Laura Laurent came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.28 - 10:05PM to say:

When do ya'll make the decisions?

Laura Laurent came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.28 - 10:06PM to say:

Don't let that comment (or this one) distract you from validating! Chapter 9 of Broken is in the queue and I'm dying to read it!

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.28 - 10:24PM to say:

The deadline for submitting applications is May 7th. Though, please don't wait until the last minute. We are already reviewing the apps that have been sent in.

PhoenixAeternum came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.28 - 10:52PM to say:

Being an Archivist can indeed be rewarding, but do not expect it to come without work. Submissions are frequent and this is not a job one should apply for without the expectation of great effort. Great sites are not made by lazing about.

J Daisy came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.29 - 10:37PM to say:

I wasn't going to apply before but now I'm seriously considering it because I just uploaded a story and I'm getting it's taking a while to be validated. Actually, it's probably just now that I've seen this news tidbit I feel rather...compelled.

PhoenixAeternum came out of the woodwork on 2006.04.30 - 10:04PM to say:

That's the spirit.

Knightsaber came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.01 - 02:07AM to say:

I submitted a new and much better application than last time. Here's to hoping. I've wanted to help on the site for a very long time now. :)

HeatherWeasley_lover came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.01 - 06:38PM to say:

So let me understand this. Us authors that have been here for like 2 years or so don't have to do the submission? Or do we? I'm slightly confused.

J Daisy came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.03 - 04:47PM to say:

HeatherWeasley_lover, I think you still have to submit an application no matter what, but if you already have something posted on here, you don't have to submit a story. But don't take my word for it...just hearing a person ask makes me feel unsure! ;)

Sir Ollivander came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.04 - 07:27PM to say:

HeatherWeasley_lover and all - maybe this will be less confusing.

If you are already a published author on SIYE, you do not need to submit a sample of your work. We can just go to your account and read your story.

If you are NOT a published author on SIYE, we need a sample of your work or an explanation of your qualifications to review other author’s work.

We also want:

1. A short paragraph about yourself, to include, your age, hobbies and any background information that would set you apart from the other applicants.

2. The amount of time you are willing to commit to SIYE.

3. Define your perception of the rating system: G, PG, PG-13, R.

pottergirl101 came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.07 - 07:20PM to say:

if you don't get a reply back, does that mean your submission was denied?

J Daisy came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.08 - 03:46PM to say:

Don't take this to heart, pottergirl101, because ducks have more authority on this subject than I do, but I'm guessing that you'll recieve some notification. And applications might have still been coming in yesterday, so I expect it may take a while before even they know anything. Of course, you might as well be asking a duck. ;)

Professor Scroll came out of the woodwork on 2006.05.12 - 10:07AM to say:

To all applicants We have not selected anyone yet, we are still going over and discussing the merits of each applicant. I hope to be able to contact everyone who applied in the very near future. Yes, validating is taking some time. Many of the staff are students and while revising and taking exams, no one expects them to spend time at SIYE. We feel that family and education must come first.
